DSMB, that has to be my favourite, and oh yes we have a few of them. So sad on busy days you have to dodge them whilst they hold court in reception and entertain everyone else - classic

I remember SBI - and also GOK - God Only Knows

instead of SFB we had TAPS - Thick As Pig S***t

we also had a DSMB = Double Slot- Max Bygraves ( ie 'I want to tell you a story') for clients that needed extra time to discuss the time of day. We had a lot of elderly clients who just wanted to talk and wherever we were able we fitted them in time permitting - I think as a result we also had very good rapport with most of our clients as they didnt feel rushed or hustled. I can still remember the boss saying to us don't forget you will be old one day. It was a really nice practice to work for, wish there were more like it now.

I worked with a vet who had a bonkers Springer Spaniel named Panda. So she would often write on clients cards OIQ<P. Translated as Owner IQ less than Panda.

yes we used OOD for out of date too - but if you saw it on a clients record... (this was in the pre computer days).

at one place I worked BP at the side of a clients name (or sometimes a vets!!) had nothing whatsoever to do with blood pressure - but was a warning to the nurses they were in the vicinity of a bottom pincher. (aka assault these days)

I think a lot of these abbreviations have died out with computers. When you had paper records and you needed to get information across quickly and take as little room/explanation as possible each practice had abbreviations that could remain confidential and still get the message across - now its easier for somebody to log into a file and just read what they need however long

and this one I found a bit sad as it was a serious warning to whoever was seeing the animal - OOD = owner on drugs ( and I am not thinking legally supplied drugs) ie we couldnt give a syringe to owner to say give fluids or liquid feed to their animal, they were not to be left unattended at any time they entered the building, you had to be careful about them spending too long in the loo in case they were drugging up and somebody had to check the waste bin in the loo after they had gone for syringes needles - as I say very sad but had to be done
