In my experience they tell you everything that they know as they want the dog to be in a 'forever home'. They usually send the home checker In a few weeks later to see if there are any problems and to make sure that the dog is settled with it's new family.

You have to be honest with them as they try to match the dog to a home so that they compliment each other which helps minimise dogs being returned.

It's so hard trying to decide which one of the lovely girls or boys to give a home to! When enquiring about a dog from a rehoming centre, does the centre have to tell potential new owners everything they know about that dog's past? I know there's no way to know everything about what has happened to every dog, but I would want to know as much as possible about the dogs life so I can give him the best home possible! :-)

Hi,

I've recently become a volunteer with german shepherd rescue. They are fab and do thorough checks all round before re homing a dog to make sure the right dog is suited to the right owner. They have a web page and are on facebook with plenty of gorgeous boys and girls that need a loving home.

They've had 2 shepherds before, but got both of them from breeders at a young age, so this is the first time they are looking at a rescue.

I home check for a few rescue centres but not this one. If I wanted to adopt another shepherd then I would consider them as I haven't heard anything bad about them.

Have your in-laws had a GDS before? What do you feel that they need advice on?
