We have an excess of student nurses requiring placements for their courses.

Practices want qualified nurses

Students don't get placements=forced to drop out.

The result... No qualified VN.

Many nurses in practice, myself included have decided, for many reasons to walk away from nursing, albeit temporarily in most cases.

If practices took on these students, they would end up with a RVN at the end of it and the best bit... If you have a degree nurse in training, you don't need to pay them!

Re: WHERE ARE ALL THE NURSES GONE??

theres compassion and paying the bills, sadly there are owners who will phone vets run up a huge bill and then never pay or have no means of paying.

I was loking for a job for ages but never managed to find one until i had almost given up hope.i wanted a part time job but no one wanted one, as i needed to fit around my family.

Re: WHERE ARE ALL THE NURSES GONE??

Im currently working for a charity and we get emergency cases that some private vets refuse to treat or even stabilise even though its a life treatening unless

they can pay..Some of the stories we hear are shocking.

Back to the point I have been considering changing back to private vets for some time but this really puts me of applying as i would hate working for vets that

work for profit and have very little compassion. I know lot of vets are not like that but its Its hard to guess from the actual add...

this is probably your answer

so are any of the practices represented here actively training any nurses?

Re: WHERE ARE ALL THE NURSES GONE??

I completely agree!
It used to be trying to find work was near impossible in my area but recently I decided to return after 2 years off and everywhere seems to be looking for nurses! Still plenty students about though (as always!) so doesn't make much sense to me where the shortage is stemming from!
Good luck in your search :)

Re: WHERE ARE ALL THE NURSES GONE??

I don't know either!! I need it to be part time to fit in with my degree (not vet nurse related). I'm qualified with 10 years experience in a variety of practices including 24hr hospitals and referrals. Many practices within the area have advertised for staff over the last 6 months but refuse a part time nurse.
