What are your thoughts on it?

Please could you give examples of the work needed to complete the courses.
Can't decide whether to do the certificate or diploma. It has been hard work and requires a lot of self-discipline, as the course is run through distance learning and there are no deadlines, as such, so you need to be able to set deadlines for yourself and stick to them. I usually set myself a 3 month deadline per unit and this is generally enough time.

With the Diploma, the very first unit is a foundation unit, which is a condensed version of the Certificate, which nurses need to do if they haven't already completed the Certificate.

I would say the Diploma is def more aimed at Qualified Nurses, as some of the workbooks presume you already have a basic knowledge of the subject. I would probably say to students to wait until you're qualified before pursuing these courses, as you will not have a life at all of you're studying for your Nursing Qualification as well!! That needs to be your priority :)

RE: Isfm certificate/diploma

hey shellvn,

i was just wondering how you are getting on with the feline diploma? im thinking of doing the cert or diploma, and like everyone else it seems, which one first?? how is it set up? you get coursework and an assignment that you have to complete in a certain time? how you finding it being a fulltime rvn also?

any help you could give me i would really appreciate it :))))

I've completed both the ISFM FN certificate and diploma. They are both really good and useful courses, but the diploma is far more demanding than the certificate. I spent around 10-15 hours a week on the diploma (prob around 5-6 hours for the certificate) and although it was worth it, you need a certain amount of self discipline and patience to complete the course. Really glad I did it though!

Re: Isfm certificate/diploma

Not sure which one to do - I found 1st year easy as all of it was just revision however can't be bothered with all the travelling flairs up medical condition. - now in 2nd year I,m enjoying learning about radiography which is new to me - so feel I might learn something this year. :) Good luck.

Re: Isfm certificate/diploma

Hi Charley, I'm starting my RVN training this September & have also just enrolled onto the Feline nursing certificate!! When speaking to the course coordinator I was advised that the diploma would be very demanding for a nursing student as it's aimed at qualified nurses & is quite intense, and was advised to do the certificate...but to think very hard in regards to work load as it will be a very demanding 1st year! She did say that once the certificate is completed & you wanted to go for the Diploma, it will be a condensed version. Luckily I've worked with cats for 10 years, in a charity environment, private practice & TNR projects so hope experience/knowledge will make the course easier and complement my RVN training...otherwise not sure if I'd be brave enough to do the workload! If you have a passion for felines go for it!

Re: Isfm certificate/diploma

Do you think the certificate/diploma is suitable for students to study.
I am currently on workbook two of the ISFM certificate, I am enjoying it but finding it hard to find the time to study. I do work as a VN full time and it is a long time since I have studied. Some of it is what would you do in practice and that has been useful. I know there has been a couple of little niggles (I think to do with the I pads) but they are hopeing they have ironed them out. If you send me your e-mail address I will attempt to email workbook one to you to look at.
