Just wondering if anyone would mind sharing how much you get paid if you take the out of hour phone calls whilst on a night duty? It's new to me and just wondering what the going rate is.
Thank you :D xx

Re: on call with phones pay?

http://www.vetnurse.co.uk/forums/p/24077/149482.aspx#149482

think this is the most recent Caro

asked about this from a legal contact and this isnt as simple as some would have you believe, and would be dependant on what is written in an individuals contract and the duties they have agreed to within the contract they signed. If you are salaried your employer could say that a proportion of your salary is to cover ooh and that would be perfectly legal for them to do so.

So many posts recently wanting to know if you get extra pay for doing x y or z - at the end of the day you are only going to get paid what the employer feels your time is worth, or what they can afford to pay you.

As nurses we aren't that far behind the vets and soon there will be more qualified nurses than there are jobs - there is still no legal requirement for practices to employ qualified nurses. I know there is a mythical scarcity of qualified veterinary nurses but the reality is somewhat different. I took calls from 3 locum agencies just this week asking if we needed any locum nurses - three in a week to me suggests that at the moment there are a lot of people looking for work.

Re: on call with phones pay?

Apparently law has changed to being paid a post on the site someplace not sure where though.

Re: on call with phones pay?

Sorry, this isn't going to help you as when I did this it was just part of the rota with no extra pay. Not that we didn't suggest that some 'on call' pay for having the responsibility of the phone and putting up with all the silly out of hours insurance etc calls would be nice, it didn't happen. Good luck
