I wasn't joining in on the referral aspect just pointing out that clients are already very sensitive about these subjects because of misinformation on the internet etc.

fair enough - but if clients are coming into the practice for referral do you just no sorry wont refer you there because we dont believe in what they are saying or do you offer them a balanced viewpoint. I really dont think these people are trying to say they are working in the veterinary profession - they are trying to work alongside.

This and the homeopathy debate reminds me of the Dave Allen comedy sketch where two gentlemen of the cloth (of different persuasions) are so busy fighting over who gets soon to be deceaseds immortal soul that they both miss out when the guy snuffs it and they are so wrapped up in their argument they havn't even noticed he has gone

Tbh though clients don't need any encouragement believing things like this, so if they see someone who they perceive as working in the veterinary profession saying things like this then they will start believing it. Most people aren't going to see it in the same way you do Sal.

as they are advertising as working alongside vets and not replacing veterinary advice or offering a diagnosis and are only taking on clients for hydrotherapy with the agreement of the client's vet then there are plenty of opportunities there for the practice to allay fears or answer questions which may be raised and put across a differing perspective dont you think? And if this place is so bad then surely that makes the vets that make referrals to them equally bad for using them? or maybe, could it just be, that these people are good at the service they provide and vets have seen a benefit of using them?

I've seen two cats with FISS which were attributed to FeLV vaccs; and one suspected reaction in the neck of a dog. The dog was really chunky and had a lot of fat around its neck - sadly the owner didn't notice the lump until it was a substantial size but it was still removed surgically. Never saw the dog back though to find out if it reoccured (was rehomed).

That article made my eyes water! The problem being that pet owners will read that and seriously consider it as fact (or, at least worth worrying about).

I didn't think hoists were meant to be used any more? Also does not appear to be NARCH or otherwise registered. I can't find any qualifications listed on the site?

having looked at the website for this place it does look as though a lot has been invested and it is a decent set up, perhaps its just the advice in the article that lets them down a bit - but then you have to consider that there are lots of differing opinions out there on how things should be done. They do mention on their page that they do not diagnose or prescribe and advise people to contact their vs which is a lot more than some of them do.

actually I have seen 2 cases of Vaccine Associated Sarcoma - one of them quite recently(within the last 6months) and the other about 8 or 9 years ago, both in cats and both thought to be as a result of felv vaccine - but these are extremely rare. I have never seen VAS in a dog. It is thought that they are caused by the aluminium adjuvant in some vaccines (similar to aluminium in some antiperspirant products which have been cited as causing cancer in humans).

Flea and tick tx - I would rather treat for ticks than see an animal die from renal failure as a result of Lymes (and yes I have seen this happen) - and I just have to ask if the frequency of flea and tick tx is reduced just what else is swimming around in that hydrotherapy pool? Spaying and neutering maybe it shouldnt be an automatic decision - but whilst their are thousands of animals waiting for homes in rescue centres maybe its being responsible preventing your pets from adding to their numbers?

I have seen quite a few soft tissue sarcomas in the general scruff area in cats, however that would never stop me encouraging people having their cats vaccinated

i imagine some of the bigger veterinary bodies will have alot to say on this.... Hogswash. I just hope she has hard evidence to back up her claims.
