Now I'm a "human" nurse for that job I use BSc RN ....god help me if I mixed it up a bit and added in the RVN to confuse them all

Re: make sense of this if you can?

The new awarding bodies (CQ and C&G) offer a Vet Nursing qualification. These have been approved by the RCVS as suitable to join the register.

However if you decided not to join the register you would still have a DipVN/Level e Diploma in Veterinary Nursing.

Therefore for being a vet nurse its the RVN bit that counts, regardless of DipVN, BSc, FdSc, or how you got your qualification. Its just like people saying Joe Bloggs BSc RVN. The BSc is the level of academic study, the RVN the professional status/

But agree its confusing with DipAVN!

Such is the complicated world we live in!

Re: make sense of this if you can?

The same the same are you insane experts get paid a fortune to come up with the rubbish god forbid it was the same how would all the experts survive!!

Re: make sense of this if you can?

So if nurses that are doing the normal diploma get the post nominals dipVN then that's confusing because RVNs that have done the advanced diploma get the post nominals dipAVN. Quite similar and may get mistaken.

I don't understand why it can be the same across the board no matter who the awarding body is.

Re: make sense of this if you can?
yes I get that bit - but are the RCVS saying there is only going to be one postnominal but the awarding body is going to be using more that wont necessarily be recognised by the RCVS? thats the bit I dont get?
To be honest there are loads of postnominals that both vets and nurses use that aren't recognized by the RCVS and nobody seems to mind.

Practically speaking all it means is that when they write you a letter they will only write the postnominals after your name that they recognize.

Postnominals are a funny thing - in an unrelated example, the RCVS has it on the records that a degree from my uni is called a DrMedVet - even though the university that awards it calls it a DVM. (And I'd tend to agree with the university - they taught it, you'd think they'd know!) So all my post gets addressed to Mark Hedberg DrMedVet MRCVS instead of Mark Hedberg DVM MRCVS. I don't particularly care either way; it's never taken bread off my table - they can call me what they like!
