Tonight, with the help of some good music (thru my fantastic Walkman) and the reward of a glass of Rose wine afterwards, I potted on 12 courgette seedlings, 13 cucumber seedlings, at least 13 purple sprouting broccoli seedlings, at least 6 tomato plants that I really didn't think were going to come up ( and have only sprouted in the last few days) , 6 out of 6 butternut squash seedlings and hopefully I can just see some chilli pepper and sweet pepper seedlings appearing.... They were all planted Easter weekend and have been in a mini greenhouse... so I think they have taken their time coming up!

I just love the growing part... I'm not so good at the harvesting and eating bit... i always put stuff in the freezer with good intentions of cooking proper food but never quite get round to it.......................

Re: growing your own veggies

Nooo, I was looking forward to berries this year!!

sophia, you can just grow potatoes in black plastic bins with drainage holes in the bottom or you can get potato growing bags from B n Q. herbs and stuff you can buy ready grown ones and do what I did by just putting a mixture of about 3 in a large plant pot. you can get small plastic cover greenhouses from poundstretcher or wilkos for seeds which need to ideally be indoors etc like peppers, sweetcorn, courgettes etc then plant them in the ground. I live in a flat so have nowhere to put mine indoors, I have the ones needed in a greenhouse or a makeshift clotch made from clear plastic and bamboo cane.

as for what to do with the garden to make it into a veg patch, just a case of digging over the bit that you want to use.

last year we didn't really know what we were doing we just put stuff in the ground and hoped for the best.

for onions, shallots etc I would buy the sets and put them straight into the ground.
