This year I decided just to grow seeds from packets brought in previous years and not buy any new packets... a VERY hard thing to do... and also some packets went back to pre 2000,( which is from when I brought my house!) so I did opt to throw these out...

Tonight, with the help of some good music (thru my fantastic Walkman) and the reward of a glass of Rose wine afterwards, I potted on 12 courgette seedlings, 13 cucumber seedlings, at least 13 purple sprouting broccoli seedlings, at least 6 tomato plants that I really didn't think were going to come up ( and have only sprouted in the last few days) , 6 out of 6 butternut squash seedlings and hopefully I can just see some chilli pepper and sweet pepper seedlings appearing.... They were all planted Easter weekend and have been in a mini greenhouse... so I think they have taken their time coming up!

I just love the growing part... I'm not so good at the harvesting and eating bit... i always put stuff in the freezer with good intentions of cooking proper food but never quite get round to it.......................

Spent the weekend trying to assemble my greenhouse! Only to find out the lovely base which Graham has lovingly built for me isn't the right size - much swearing & greenhouse went back in box & I left Graham slapping paint onto a shed!! He's not a happy chappy!!

for onions, shallots etc I would buy the sets and put them straight into the ground.

LOL i bought a proper 6 x 6 glass greenhouse october last year thinking hubby would be nice and build it for me .....its STILL sitting in the hut - i attempted to build it two wks ago but looked at the destructions and they swiftly got put back in the box lol [:D

Will just have to make do with my ikkle plastic greenhouse for now!

Rachel - I bought the Homebase rasps & blueberries last year & I'm still waiting for fruit. MAybe we misread the label and its says they take 10 years to fruit!!

I've been out buying stuff, I'm so excited! Fruit bushes are on offer at Homebase, 3 for £10, so have got 2 rapsberry ones & a blackberry, the tag says they'll fruit for at least 10years!! Plus have got strawberries, tomatoes, lettuce, radish, parsley and some leeks that I brought by mistake thinking they were spring onions!!

We'll all have to post photos towards the end of the summer of our harvests!!

I've just got a greenhouse!!! Tomatoes are stil on the sindow sill though cos the greenhouse is still in the box!! Maybe next year!

I'm currently growing: beetroot, carrots, tomatoes, spring onions, lettuce, rhubarb and peppers. I also grow my own herbs: basil, thyme, dill, mint, chocolate peppermint (my fav), coriander, chives.

We have a small back yard so unfortunately no room for beds so grow our produce in large troughs.

lol we have some many of our tomato plants its not even funny... martin put them in the incubater... AAAAAHHH good thing I had an italian gran! I know loads of tomato recipes! lol :)

i half started last year, had spinich mainly and some herbs, but this year i am going all out, well at least trying. i have got a bin of spuds, got some onions, peas, carrots, leeks, beetroot and tomatoes and peppers.

though i did cheat today, my tomato seedlings havent really worked so got some plants today. might have to cheat on the peppers as well.

Iwould love to grow veg etc but I have never gotten round to it.

Id really like to grow herbs like basil,rosemary etc.

the bottom half of our garden (approx. 60ft square) is fenced off from the dog(s), and in the past hubby grew our own produce. He then got bored with it then too busy working 70 miles from home every day so we've had nothing for the last 3 years or so. Now he's been made redundant and can't find work, and with me unable to find either more part time work, or a SVN position, he's started to dig and sow and weed etc.

We have cabbages, parsnips, shallots, garlic, onions, cucumbers, carrots, beetroot, peas, broad beans, potatoes, lettuce, cress, chillis in the ground or greenhouse.
Hopefully we can sell any spare produce but if not then we won't have to buy veg this year if the birds leave the seedlings alone.

My partner is doing his own this year! Bless him he's got a raised bed and greenhouse in the back and a potato patch too! :D
