I got engaged last June, and this year need to start thinking about setting a date.
I started the level 3 diploma day release in September. I should finish the course in June/July 2015.
We had originally decided the let me finish college

Re: Planning a wedding whilst training?

Thanks everyone for replying. Doing much re: looking at venues in between work won't be a possibility. Me and OH live in London but will get married in Somerset as that is where we are from and have family there etc. So I guess we wouldn't be able to do a few things from London and will need to look at regular weekends down in Somerset (I go down for a weekend every 4-5 weeks anyway).

I am not sure how I would cope with it, my clinical coach thinks I will be fine...just get the big bits done early on...and then can do little and often as I go along. A couple of girls on my course are organising weddings at the moment, will ask them next time I see them.

At the moment I am very unorganised, but usually I am quite organised and will do a work/revision plan etc. So once I get myself sorted after having a nice easy xmas break I think I will be ok.

TBH I really don't think I am going to find a wedding fun to plan, so I am not worried about college taking the fun out of it! Although i have found looking at dresses online a nice break from college work :)

If we decide to wait until 2016 will have to do it in Autumn as I am pretty set on going to Chile for honeymoon!

Lots to ponder on, but sounds like most wouldn't do it. Thank you!

Re: Planning a wedding whilst training?

Congratulations!

I got engaged last September, a few weeks before my results came out for the practical exams. I would have not managed to organise a wedding and studying at the same time. But I think it all goes down to how you deal with stress. I was useless in the weeks coming up to exams and spent all my time studying!

Re: Planning a wedding whilst training?

Congratulations!

We waited until I qualified before we got engaged, and I'm glad we did. I had a small wedding, but still need to arrange all the same stuff as a bigger wedding. It was incredible stressful, but kind of enjoyable and I think doing it along with your studies would take all the enjoyment away. I planned mine in 6 months. You could book the venue and maybe the band and then sort the rest once you've qualified.

x

Re: Planning a wedding whilst training?

Congratulations! And I'm glad to see I'm not the only one - I got married 3 weeks after my first year exams for my VN post-grad. We did have a small affair, but it still requires planning.

I found that as I was locumming I could take the odd day off to see a venue/get marriage certs etc (we got married outside our "parish" so had to get special paperwork!). It could be you can organise your shifts to suit viewings etc. Its much easier to get to see people during the week.

I would also recommend getting married on a Friday. Even at short notice you can get your first choice on florists/venues etc. And your friends get a long weekend!

As for exams, OSCEs are 4 times a year, as are the written if still RCVS. If C&G you can elect re-sits when you feel ready. I'M not sure about CQ. Its not like the old days where you waited a year for a re-sit.

I have organised it all while training and I haven't found the wedding stuff stressful at all, I am a very organised person so that does help. College exams and assignments I found stressful (who doesn't) but I don't feel the wedding stuff added to it, I would actually say it was my bit of relief and fun after spending hours studying, I loved doing it. x

Re: Planning a wedding whilst training?

Congratulations!

I got engaged last June too :)

I am currently doing a correspondence course and organising the wedding for this June (can finally say I'm getting married this yr!) But it is easier for me to work my course around the wedding. The organisation has actually been a doddle, like you, its not a massive do but its turning out exactly how we want it to. And, I have done most of the organising myself.

If I was still training though, I may have reconsidered, purely because the weight of the course and working felt like quite a strain and I don't think I would have felt as happy as I should on my wedding day.

Hope all goes well x

Re: Planning a wedding whilst training?

I would say that my Nurse training and wedding planning were two of the most stressful things that I have ever done!

But saying that.... wedding planning was so much fun as well.

I would say take your time and get your training out of the way first. Then you can concentrate on your wedding 100%.

You and your hubby to be are going to spend the rest of your lives together so waiting for one more year will be fine.

Exciting times ahead for you :)

Re: Planning a wedding whilst training?

not quite the same but during my final year I also studied alongside my nursing as a final year clinical hypnotherapist and master NLP practitioner . It was do - able but I wouldnt say it was easy,if I wasnt studying one thing I was studying another. With the benefit of hindsight it would have been a lot less stress to just concentrate on one thing at a time. Don't miss out on the things that matter by overloading yourself - but thats just my take on it. Whatever you decide enjoy your big day.
