that technically every drug has to be recorded in one way or another. This website (see part 16) http://www.vmd.defra.gov.uk/pdf/vmgn/VMGNote14.pdf has some information but it's not all the information you're after.

All schedule 2 drugs need to be recorded in a book or register where it is obvious if any pages are pulled out i.e. not one with a spiral spine. Drugs we record are ketamine, fentanyl patches, methadone... we write amount dispensed, pets name, owner and address, and sign who dispensed it/drew it up and injected it. We don't write in when it arrives in the order, i think we should though.

All other drugs should be recorded too, but it is sufficient to use your PM system, it should have a way of telling you how much is dispensed over a yearly period and this should match your amount ordered minus stock take value. This is why it is so important to record drug wastage on your PM system, otherwise you end up with 100's mls of drugs unaccounted for - bad times! There is a requirement to be able to record and look up batch numbers, this isn't possible on our PM system so we use our suppliers 'veterinary resources'. All the other information you need to keep is in the pre-mentioned website.

If you're looking this up because of a RCVS visit, I think they have a list of all the requirements for tier2/3/etc. I would phone them to be sure what their requirements are just in case.

Hope this sort of helps, it can be a bit of a mindfield :(
