The RVC does do a graduate entry programme, but the structure of the course is a little different to the usual way of doing things! In the first year (called the Graduate year) you will be taught a very very content heavy syllabus covering all the anatomy and physiology normally done in the first 2 years of the BVetMed degree. There is also some practical teaching, and the requirement to do 12 weeks of 'animal husbandry' EMS. This is 2 weeks on a pig farm, 2 weeks lambing, 2 weeks on a dairy farm, 2 weeks with horses and 4 weeks of other (which can include SA nursing). You can count half of this from before starting, but have to do the remaining six weeks during the G year. The fees at the moment are around £3k/year (even for grads) making it one of the cheapest options to do the vet course as a graduate. That said, it does make it one of the more popular postgrad vet courses, and there is a lot of internal competition from the college's BSc Vet Science students. Nottingham are also only charging around £3k/year but it's a five year course, and Bristol, Cam, Liverpool, Edinburgh and Glasgow all charge the full international fees (between 15 and 18k/year) for post graduates.

I'm not sure about the entry requirements elsewhere, but at the RVC they ask for a minimum of a 2.i in your first degree, and you may also have to take the BMAT exam. Its a science and logical thinking test which ranks you according to other students taking the exam at the same time. I think that they take into account a-levels, but use your degree ranking more heavily in deciding if you are a suitable candidate or not.

Hope that helps!

She didn't have spectacular A-level grades either (I think Ds or Cs or something like that) - but she was having to pay international student fees which are about £16,000 pa. I think name was either Kate or Elizabeth. My memory seems to tell me it was the latter and I think her name on this site was 'Beth'. I also think she does some locum work for Vets Now Edinburgh so you might be able to track her down and chat to her. I know she was loving doing the degree and found her nursing really helped.

Re: RVN to VS?

hi coming from a person who looked at this before deciding to go down the VN route id say if you have alevels (which you prolly do doing the Bsc) what are they because most uni's ask for biology, chemisty at Alevel as a must and physics or maths as your 3rd alevel, altho nottingham have a different scheme where if you have AAA in other subjects you can do a 6yr VS course so you can catch up on science in the first year but i duno what theyd say if you have a VN degree as they look for science degree and dunno if that would be considered one, job one id say would be call all the uni's that offer it which was 6 last time i looked and tell them your situation and see what they can offer you, the uni's are (if you dont know) liverpool, bristol, edinburgh, glasgow, london (royal) and nottingham

hope this helps, like i said nottingham would be a good one to ask as they have the alternative course good luck!
