Jobs simply don't come up that often in small practices.

You'd be better off targeting your applications to those practices who are actively recruiting. Don't request 'an immediate training place' as there are usually people in-house who are desperate to train... you'll go to the bottom of the pile. Just make sure they are a TP, and mention that your goal is to train one day.

If you do want to chance your luck, then do so in person. Plan a route and drive round, visiting all the practices you're interested in. Carry a CV with a photo attached for any who are recruiting or may be interested in you. That way, they'll remember you!

Seems an obvious one, but has someone checked your CV for you? Ideally someone who does recruiting and therefore knows what people are looking for. It may be that you aren't promoting yourself or your talents very well on paper. Don't forget, a CV will never get you a job - it is only designed to get you an interview. Don't try to say too much, just say enough that they want to meet you!

Good luck!
