Not sure about weight watchers but I did slimming world for 2 years and fat and calories were never mentioned nor was diet- it was a healthy eating plan coupled with encouraging lifestyle change. Fat did occasionally get mentioned in the context of how much space 2lbs (average weekly loss) would take up- it's quite surprising how large it is- some of the group leaders were given plastic models of 2lbs of fat and they were really quite big.
I like slimming world - did lose a lot of weight with them at one time which has gradually crept back in the last 4 years - so now is time to start again. The one thing I did learn from them is its not about counting every single calorie its about eating smart (and some of it I still manage just because it has become a habit) ie I dont bother with tuna mayo much now but if you mix your tuna with creme fraiche and add a few other things not only does it taste better but the calorie and fat content are way down. I do the same substituting creme fraiche for mayo when doing an egg and mayo sandwich and for me it tastes better. I dont think I will go back to classes again as I cant justify the expense at this time but will use the books and start playing with food again

Re: Lifestyle Change
With regards your fruit and then exercise you are doing your body no favours need to eat a breakfast after the exercise something like porridge.

I think the thing about change is not to diet to change your eating habits. A diet won't work, slimmers world weight watchers etc focus on calories or fat in other words a single "word" word. This is wrong and can often lead to an unbalanced diet. Learn to look at the whole package of food.
If you want to go whole hog keep a food diary and record info on the food items. it is a ballache but a good learning tool. It helps you learn what your food contains.

Smaller plates make bigger helpings. Never skip breakfast, porridge is excellent as it is slow release. I have an apple at 11am as a snack and that keeps me full till lunch. Eat loads of veg and veg. But beware of grapes and oranges...full of sugar. A good tip about fruit and veg l was told the greener it is the better for you the more orange to red the more sugar. It isnt 100% but a good baseline. Eggs good but borferline lot of controversy as yolks are fatty and full of cholesterol. So go easy on them.

That put the frighteners on me. I've had heartburn for 20 years!

Anyway, I'm trying to change my lifestyle (heartburn goes when I lose weight). So far:

No more sugar in coffee or tea. Caro, stick with it. After a few weeks, I don't even miss it now.

Fruit for breakfast

50 lengths hard swimming every weekday morning

Usually a bowl of soup for lunch.

However, all that hard work is being, er, somewhat compromised by the fact that come 8:00pm in the evening I'm absolutely bloody starving, which coupled with my severe chocolate addiction problem means everything goes to pot before I go to bed!

I myself lack in motivation but reading all your comments really makes me go "COME ON!!" (to myself not toward you guys!) I am not one of these people that can go by their self to the gym and work away... I some how always end up in the steam room or jacuzzi. I might have a look into a boot camp in my area as to me it seems like great fun/a good work out!

I have never been one for the whole cut out diet thing but then again thats probably why I am the weight that I am. I have known alot of people to have great success with Slimming world (my mother lost 5 and a half stone in a year and a half) but I have tried it and found it very hard to stick to (although thats probably my motivation again :-D)

Any body got a cure / magic potion for lack of motivation???

need advice. Would rather pay him than a gym waste of money unless you
are fit and not need any help. l think his bootcamps are £5 but as l said me and them...oil and water.

Marmite ... guess which camp l fall into, only time l like marmite if you wipe it on spuds then roast them..lovely and crisp. . Thanks for the heads up l will try the cinnamon, l went to try the other day but it smelt of cinnamon (ok ok ok l know!!!) Yup always do make my porridge with water. l have just bought a little salter digital scale, l was using Andy's big "normal dial" scales before to weigh my food and hard to read, salter is brill

Good point on walking l need to do more Andy walks the neighbours dog 1.5hrs every day, l always forget about walking being good.... probably as it is something we do as normal.

Seeds are good healthiest seeds on earth so now have flax and from tomorrow chia seeds on my porridge, scoff sunflower and pumpkin as snack through the day, and think l may start putting my sesame seeds into my porrige as well they are ok if you dip an apple in but dusty tasting to eat on their own. Hemp like eating chunks of rocky dust but peel a banana and dip into the hemp and eat it that way and is bearable...only need a tablespoon a day so get round that taste problem with my daily banana intake.

Thanks for the warning on the myfitnesspal, never used it for bar codes tend to use it as an eating log and to find my fat/carb/fiber/protein intake when l write out my eating logs.

Sugarless coffee is not going well, for every mug that is ok 4 are yuck, but all l can do is push on l am not going to be beaten by a sugar craving.

Re: Lifestyle Change

Lol you must be a Marmite fan then...

Re: Lifestyle Change

Tea with sugar is full of wrongness as is cinnamon

Re: Lifestyle Change

Just a couple of comments - funny re the cinnamon - I tried it on my porridge the other day and it's delicious!
