I have been relatively stable until 6 months ago when I became low again. My doc is not the best and I seem to understand endocrine problems better than him...

Feeling a bit better already since upping the dose. I'm not sure why I was low as I was (back down to pre tx levels with high TSH-3) should be fairly stable after 2 years surely? Also I don't have an autoimmune problem as my globulins were normal, so am a bit worried as to why I am hypot4... Of course no investigations dome or T3 test to see if a T3-T4 conversion problem etc.

Re: Hypothyroid and not coping with dose changes.

My neighbour is in exactly the same boat as you. As with your suggestion, she also upped her dose by 25mg every other day and although she has the odd off day, it is currently working. As a trained nurse [human] I tend to ignore doctors who think they know everything and do exactly what I want. I had the same problem with my antihypertensive, when I wanted to take something that I knew would work and not give me side-effects, but wasn't recommended by NICE [what a misuse of an acronym!] for my age group. I just pointed out bluntly to my GP that if he refused me the drug and I suffered a stroke etc as a result, he would be the one being sued, struck off etc as I had offered an alternative to his suggestion.

I'm afraid that you seem to have one of these GPs who thinks that just because he/she has got a medical degree they know everything. They don't, it is a bit of paper and nothing more, you learn by experience, just like with do with the animals. I think you have to be a bit more assertive with these doctors and mentioning lawsuits doesn't hurt [and yes you could sue for failure to provide adequate medical care]. In the meantime I would advise taking the medication as you see fit, not the way they tell you to [you are an expert patient after all], considering another practice, asking for a referral to an endocrine specialist at hospital. I recommend the last as you shouldn't be having this problem with medication, if there are no other health problems. My friend mentioned above, also has to take medications to keep her cancer at bay, hence the problems sometimes.

Hopefully you will get it sorted, but we are all here to listen to you have a rant in the meantime. Good luck.

And yeah i agree messes with working life so much! Cant remember what payments i take, phone calls etc awful!

My last bloods showed i was low again but my doctor wont put it up! argg!!

switch doctors i think! even if it is another one in the practice! a fresh take on things by a different doctor helps! Ive recently changed doctors so next app i will badger them!

Hope you get it sorted!
