Do you have to have health tests etc if your going to working veterinary. It says nurse Doctor paramedic but doesn't stipulate human/ animal?

Sooo jealous of your trip. I had 7 jobs whilst in aus and loved it. I used kookaburra and had no problem at all finding work. Wage will be around $25 an hour. Wage same in every state but living costs very different. Standards very different too which might take a little getting used to! All the best!

Hello ! im out in Oz working in practice just now. At the clinic im at just now the tax is just taken off my wages like at home, you need to supply a tax file number when you start (you can get the forms in the post office here). Like others have said my work also put money into a super which can all be claimed back whenever i head home ! But most places will be able to help ! Girls i have spoken to have got their tax back sorted online before heading home and said it was easy ! http://www.kookaburravets.com is great for finding locum work, always jobs being advertised. Hey! I have just come back from a year working in OZ. Tax back was easy I worked in several vets (they love British nurses) A couple days before I left sydney I went into the tax office there (there are tax offices in most major cities) I sat down with one of the people and filled out the form there and then and submitted it- easy as! Tax was paid about 5weeks later. When working there the company will automatically put money into a superannuation (equivalent to our pension fund) you can also claim this back too! I advise to take all paper work with you to a tax office that way you can't can't wrong. Enjoy!!! I'm so jealous of you all going :)

Im also looking into a working holiday in oz but not until Oct/Nov next year. I would very very keen to hear how your getting on with finding work and the whole lifestyle out there.

Nope- I locummed in 3 different clinics (then worked in a bar) and just got work through word of mouth or online- easy peasy.

Don't stress about tax, its done much the same way as here so unless you really felt the need to be self employed (which I doubt the Working Holiday Visa even allows), employers will pay you as per their own employees, PAYE style, you also have to pay into Super funds (pension) then you get it all back in a lump some when you leave, which is nice (and most useful) to fund the long and lazy months you can spend on SE Asian beaches on the long way home..ahhh memories..

I can't help with your questions im afraid but i would be interested in hearing the answers.

I too am planning on going to Australia but not until feb/march and wondered how the locuming worked over there.

Ive not organised anything yet but hoping to travel for a month or so before i start work, might see you over there :)
