I can never get the whole journal on that site because you have to be a member. or is there another way to get the whole thing? Ok brilliant idea about the appendices because I was struggling to fit everything in.

If you need evidence or references to support your nursing care plans then I would suggest looking for copies of The Veterinary Nurse journal, you will find lots of articles on Nursing Care plans and also other useful information to support your assignment.

Do one case at a time, use an appendix as well, this will massively reduce your word count. My appendix was for how to place an IV cannula, planes of anaesthesia, TPR ranges, how to perform aseptic skin prep etc..... This was the referred to throughout the assignment, so I would say something like "and intravenous cannula was place aseptically, (appendix 1) so that the patient could be induced for surgery...." Your appendix does not count towards your final word count either so it can be as big or as small as you want it to be.

Can I ask did you use veterinary articles or general articles about the care plans as in human nursing?

I'm really struggling with this assignment too!!

Any help will be appreciated.

Hi Hannah,

I'm not entirely sure what you mean by "if I discuss each section in the nursing care plan for each case" but I can tell you how I set mine out. I did the same as you and decided which objectives went best with each case. I then also evaluated each type of care plan saying what I thought was good and bad with each using the case studies as examples. I then critically analysed them including how I felt each care plan could be improved and why I wouldn't use some of them again (ie: Orem & the RTL) and how I might edit the Jeffery and Orpet one to make it more practice friendly.

I started off each case by explaining why I'd chosen that particular care plan for that particular case, for example for my terminal case I used the RTL as I found a reference that stated it was a good care plan for intensive care nursing.

Hope this helps a little bit, I did find this assignment the most difficult to write as it was easy to go off and start evaluating my nursing care rather than the actual careplans (which is what is required).
