(can recommend Sound of Music - brilliant)

I can't belive a TFL person gave such cr*p advice! The Oyster costs £3 initially if you don't put at least a monthly pass on it, but after that is cheaper than single fares and also works out when you have reached the spending for a 1 day travel card anyway! I think you can now buy them in advance and have them sent to you so no need to queue when yo arrive at a busy station! it works on all tubes, buses, dlr, trams and SOME overground lines as pre-pay. Should be fine for a trip to wimblers

Re: Anyone from London??

[quote user="Nick Shackleton"]

Oyster cards are your best bet but check if the overground lines you want to use accept them as some lines do and some dont, thats the mayor for you! I now live in Leeds but visit London regularly to see family and friends and tend to get a pay as you go oyster card - just buy one from any oyster shop (most newsagents) or an underground station then just top it up. The joy of the oyster is that it deducts your fare but once you have made a few journeys on the same day it will just take the cost of a one day travelcard so if you are travelling further some days than others you always pay the lowest fare. I think you have to pay £3 for the card but you can return it when you are finished and they will refund the cost and any money left that you havent used - or keep it in case you go to London again. You can top it up in newsagents, stations or online!

Hope that helps!!

I had a look at the oyster cards, but think I will go for the day pass it is going to work out cheaper as I need a god few zones too, there are 3 and 7 day ones, so I can get a 3 then buy an extra or just get a seven.

Re: Anyone from London??

PS

Ive just got back from a fabulous break in London

I bought an all day card for 3 zones, cost me £5.60 and could use it as much as I wanted in a day, was brilliant as we were on and off the tube all the time

The oyster card, is basically pay as you go, the man at the help desk told me to avoid it at all costs as unless you know exactly how much the tickets are and use the oyster card properly it can eat all your money on the card and isnt really cost effective for a couple trips, think it works best for commuters day to day?

I recommend the all day pass, as a one way single ticket was £5.40 and our all day pass was £5.60 so we would have spent a fortune on the tube!
