I'm not doing it for research, I was just curious since there are now 3 people saying it and a quick google search even brought me to a site claiming bleach was the ONLY thing to kill Parvo (obviously I know this is BS).

I was only posting to quell my own curiosity as I've never heard of bleach killing Parvo and I'd never use it as an in practice cleaner.

With all due respect I don't think anyone should EVER take as gospel anything a Vet (or nurse, or any other human being) says!

There are a number of us who qualified a long time ago and time tends to addle the brain and make us remember things as we want to remember them / as it suits us.....

Something like this should be easy to research using published research. Anything less is just going to perpetuate the constant debate on topics like "can you use hibiscrub and povidine iodine on the same surgical wound" and so on. This site is excellent for support and ideas and debate, but for something as important as this you need to get concrete facts, not "Well I always did it like this...". Google scholar is always a good start. I don't mean to be grumpy and I know we all like to offer our opinions and support to people seeking advice but it would be irresponsible to base important decisions on the chat on here!!

I really REALLY am not being a meanie here but can I point out to the above post that Parvo is not a bacteria, it is a virus. I'm sure the poster knows this!! But it just goes to show that we learn things over the years which we never think to question and then act on them........dangerous territory.....

really??i heard from a vet once that bleach covers 99% of all bacteria but that 1% is due to not covering parvo...hmm

Bleach kills everything, even at low dilutions (5 - 10%). The problem is the contact time (at least 3 to 5 mins - easy with soaking but difficult to achieve on surfaces, floors etc) and the unwanted side effects (smell, chlorine, irritant to hands, fabric bleaching etc) that you get with it.

I didn't think it would but there's 2 different people saying their vets told them to use diluted bleach.
