Just thought I'd ask what everyones night shift protocol is?
Im only asking because I work for a branch of CVS, and we do Friday - Sunday night shifts in a row every three months. For the Friday shift, we start at 4pm and finish at 8am

Re: Night Shifts Problems...

Even if you are permitted to sleep during quiet times if you are required to stay at work you should be paid. Your shifts sound rather long too, you must get 11 hours rest in each 24 hour period.

BVNA have a good legal help line that can advise you.

A group of nurses at my practice got fed up with us being unpaid for time at work and excessively long shifts. It's taken a long time and quite a bit if stress but we are now a very happy fully working time regulation complaint practice :)

Re: Night Shifts Problems...

if it really cant be resolved inhouse maybe a trip to CAB, but will point out at least these are 'sleeping shifts' and in many places they aren't. Are you salaried because if so it might well be that your hours are averaged out and accounted for that way (ie do you get the same pay for a 'short' month as you would get on a 'long' month)
