The Ct showed his lungs were not right. He did have an odd wretch, not a cough- just sounded like when they have something stuck at the back of their throat/mild kennel cough for a bit. He was fine otherwise

Re: lungworm in my dog.

Thanks for taking the time to reply!

Am going to blood test him, and my other dogs. He is going to be in the local papers as an add for treatment and testing. We are a new practice so its good publicity for us and one very local to us practice doesn't believe in giving Advocate so the clients who have changed to us say (chronic mange cases we have seen for 2nd opinion etc).

I hope your dog is doing well. I can understand your distress.

The symptoms you describe wouldn't make me think of lungworm immediately. However, lungworm can present with a wide variety of symptoms and it would be worth excluding it.

How many days ago did you give the Advocate? Typically, it takes some weeks after starting treatment before a dog will convert from Angio Detect positive to Angio Detect negative. Advocate is very effective, but it can take some weeks--it's variable--for all the adult parasites to be killed. It'd be worth taking the blood and preparing the plasma or serum as soon as possible. Do you have the test in stock? Once you have the serum or plasma, you can keep it in the fridge for a week whilst you wait for delivery. Also, you can post the sample to IDEXX Reference Laboratories.

It is a test that shows the presence of the parasite, not past exposure.

Let us all know what you find.

Thanks and best wishes

Get in touch with IDEXX - see link below as they now have a blood test available.

http://www.idexx.co.uk/html/en_gb/corporate/angio-detect-pr.html

Good luck with your dog, hope things turn out ok. Can fully sympathise I'm a nightmare when anything goes wrong with one of mine!
