What are the main reasons you use a tail bandage for? Injury, post surgery

What materials to do find work or dont work? primapors and elastoplast

Do you use stirrups? - on larger dressings bu i try to keep them light

Do you use a syringe case over the tail tip? no (well have in the past on springers but i never got on well with them - syringe cases that is not springers :-))

How do you feel clients manage their pets when these tail bandages are in place? variable i think the luighter the bandage the better they seem to be managed at home but thats very subjectivly

What methods do you think are best for the bandage to stay on? keep it light - small primapore ove rthe end, then a light wrap of elastoplast, i do include some hair between two layers to help revent further slippage but i do warm owners to keep an eny and manke sure its not pulling the hair, they do seem to stay on though

regards,

If you are going to use a syringe case I agree they add to the weight of the bandage, so do one bandage layer, then ELASTOPLAST the top of the bandage to the fur and ELASTOPLAST the case onto the bandage.... then do another layer of vetwrap over the top and MORE ELASTOPLAST!!! or you can use tongue depressors in place of the syringe case on two sides of the tail tip, ELASTOPLASTED in place before the second bandage layer.

Obsessive, moi?

Re: Tail Bandages

Hi Kerry,

Main reasons for use would be tail amputation, injury to the end of the tail (usually from 'happy tail') or if they had bad diarrhoea to help keep the tail clean.

I use softban and coflex. Its easier if they have long hair as you can include bits in the bandage to help keep it in place. If it is a short haired breed I usually some Elastoplast around the top. I just start at the top and wrap it round, no stirrups.

I've tried using syringe cases in the past but find that they mainly just weigh down the tail and cause the bandage to slip.

Hope this helps
