I have had him for 3 years after saving him from being PTS at work after been bought in as a stray. Not entirely sure of his age but

Re: feline dementia

sorry to read the above, enjoy those memories of the past three years, sounds as if he ended up in a fantastic home with you as his mum.

I think I would have made the same decision, it can be very easy to be led by the heart - but sometimes you do have to listen to that head. x

Re: feline dementia

Thank you for your kind thoughts and advice.

Today i made the most difficult decision to have my boy pts. Even up until the last second i wasn't sure if it was the right thing to do but i am glad he is at rest now and no longer suffering. He went to sleep in my arms so hopefully he got some comfort from knowing i was there with him.

It is horrible coming back home and not having him here, it feels incredibly lonely and quiet without him.

I hope that he had a good 3 years of life with me, just a shame i didn't find him earlier in his life. RIP Salem x

Re: feline dementia

Hiya, give yourself a pat on the back! its so hard taking these animals on and I am guilty of this also. I have a cat same age, arthritis and renal dx. He has phases of this of being normal, then poos on my bed and doesn't care! (Sits next to it!) and howls too and also gets spooked for no reason! and runs around the house! He has also stopped asking to go into the garden, which is sad. Again I found that meds didn't really work and no underlying medical issues to explain his behavior. I think you are doing all the right things. Do you think it may be pain? May be tramadol for his joints may help?

I have severe joint problems and it makes me a bit crazy if I am painful.

what about valerium? Some cats its magical, a long shot i know. Its so hard like you say top make a decision with this problem but QOL is paramount and you know him well enough. I get very frustrated with my old boy at times as he does night crying randomly yet is sooooo happy all the time. Any suggestions are worth a go, and I am glad to see someone in the same boat as me!

Good luck, keep up the good work!

Have you tried calmex cat liquid. No guarantees but I have found on a few occasions that this is more effective than zylkene.
