NC21 is a fluid therapy one and they want us to check that the line is patent. I'm guessing that means open the line and see if it runs?

We were told to draw up 2.5mls hep saline, not resheath your needle, swab your port, occlude using regulator clamp and inject slowly, EXPLAIN all along what you are doing and why - then dispose of needle immediately. Look for clues - if there is hep saline there use it, just make sure you swab everything, and explain what you are looking for while you inject ie, resistance and swelling.

Re: OSCE NC21

Thanks Paula

Re: OSCE NC21

Yes but make sure you run through slowly and dont waste any fluid and make sure there are no bubbles in the line either x good luck
