We are doing the free microchips for the Dogs Trust and I microchipped an 8wk old yorkie today, it has come back with reduced proprioception on one of its hindlegs - we xrayed it and looks like the chip is in a good enough position

Re: Microchip insertion

If the chip was in the spine, it wouldn't be a question. You'd have significant and severe symptoms, I promise. You're worried about your friend, that's fine - and if you're still worried in a day or two, have a tame vet give it a cuddle clinical examination to set your mind at ease.

Re: Microchip insertion

Thanks Celine, I've ended up bringing him home to keep an eye on him overnight...he's run around like a lunatic despite having a 'slightly' wobbly leg but he has improved since this afternoon. He's now fast asleep so fingers crossed he'll be fine

Re: Microchip insertion

I've never seen this before but I think you need to (impossibly) stop worrying until there has been something to indicate definitively that the microchip has caused these symptoms.

Even if, heaven forbid, the chip had somehow hit the spinal cord, you'd be looking at problems a lot higher up than hindlegs (right, neuro people?!?) It just doesn't seem to fit that it has caused the problem. Don't yorkies get spinal myelopathy or something...?

Chin up, don't beat yourself up over something that isn't certain yet, bless you x
