Ours are usually at like half 12 and we have nurses who usually have their break at two. But we have been told that the learn is your lunch and we're

Re: Lunch and learn

we used to have a cpd presentation once a month generally between 1 and 2 but it was a pain cos some nurses would have lunch 12-1 and then go to the cpd, those who were meant to have lunch 1-2 missed out (and couldn't claim it back as toil) and then the late nurses went 2-3, and then there is a group of nurses who can only grab lunch when they have time so can vary greatly, even though people were told it was to be in their lunch break, so they changed it to an evening thing every few months work do provide pizza for the evening sessions but it's awkward for a lot of the nurses who finish at 4 or half 4 to either hang around till 6/6.30 or go home and come back. we were told at one point they were compulsary as it is free cpd but I think they have realised they can't force it on us.

I am presuming that the lunch and learns are ones the reps come in and bring lunch etc? why not ask them to come in at 1 and the late nurses just have a slightly early lunch.

Re: Lunch and learn

Surely if its your lunch break then it should be optional what you do with it?

I really don't know all the legal implications of this but in my opinion you are entitled to an hour off work and therefore you should have the option of either attending the CPD or doing something else.

When I worked in 1st opinion practice we only had lunch and learn now and again so I didn't mind giving up my lunch break but if it was more regular then I'm not sure I'd be happy.
