Do you enjoy harper? How are you finding the course?!

[/quote]

The way Myerscough approach it is:

Your first 2 years are completing the Diploma in Higher Education in Clinical Vet Nursing, year 1 all modules are compulsory and year 2 you pick 3 out of 5 modules to complete, on completion of this you then complete a dissertation (technically semester 1 of a 3rd year) followed by a viva to gain the DipAVN

I've found the way Merscough approach things very easy and helpful (it had been 10 years since I had done any proper studying) with the intro back into education.

Re: Harper Adams vs Myerscough Advanced Diploma vs ECCcert

Sorry I meant at myerscough!! I dont think they offer a course in clinical vet nursing? There are 2 intakes a year. Harper are a fab college/uni for vet nursing and have sent me all the no I could wish for on an A4 sheet but equally I spoke to Claire bloor a year or so ago when I started considering the dip AVN and she was fab!

I think being able to get straight on with the DipAVN course will be the biggest pull for me rather than having to do something else first.

Re: Harper Adams vs Myerscough Advanced Diploma vs ECCcert

I'm just about to start the Diploma (next week in fact EEK) but when i was looking into it i found Myerscough much more approachable and friendly, they gave me all the information i needed and were extremely helpful. I have to admit i was quite dissatisfied with the reply from Harper Adams, they were quite short in the reply and not that helpful.

My situation is different because i work abroad but Myerscough have taken that into account whereas Harper Adams just barely acknowledged this, also being that its 10 years since I've studied and i can't go to the weekends i know that Myerscough are offering a lot of support.

I hope which ever one you choose will be great and good luck with it :)

Re: Harper Adams vs Myerscough Advanced Diploma vs ECCcert

I'm currently doing the dip at myerscough, it was 10 years since I had done ANY form of study so it was a bit of a shock to the system, however all the tutors at Myerscough are FAB and will give loads of support.... The study weekends aren't technically compulsory but highly advisable, they help everyone chat with everyone else and gives everyone a bit of moral support, there have definitely been some of the guys in my year who have not managed to attend every single weekend (there is only 4 sessions per year to attend anyway)

I think it all depends on how you feel, one of the girls at work is currently doing the ECC course and she's finding it tough going a bit as it is all online with no physical support at all.

Good luck with whatever route you choose!

Re: Harper Adams vs Myerscough Advanced Diploma vs ECCcert

I'm currently doing my advanced diploma at Harper Adams. What I like about it there is that I can take a module at a more leisurely pace. I can decide on two assessment options per module which allows between 3-9 months per module. I can also take my exam at the end of each module. The course can be done in up to 5 years if you wanted to as long as two modules are taken per year. After speaking to some nurses who have taken the diploma at Myerscough, they sit all their first year modules and then do all the exams together, this also applies in the 2nd year as well. I find it hard enough having to study for one module exam, let along 3-4 modules and the course at Mysercough also needs to be completed in 2 years. Their study weekends are also compulsary, whereas in days at Harper are optional. I hope that helps. I enjoy it at Harper and find the course very flexible.

Re: Harper Adams vs Myerscough Advanced Diploma vs ECCcert

Mairead was a fantastic student...a pleasure to teach :-)

I really enjoyed it but found it a lot of hard work. You need to make sure you can give a minimum of 20
Hours a week to it. The lectures are excellent though and the study weekends are really helpful. The course tutor is Claire Bloor and she is amazingly helpful. You should contact her directly and I am sure she would be able to give you some guidance. It is definetly worth doing though and the modules that you cover are really interesting and useful. Hope that helps.
