I was funded for all my courses. So Im sure your new employer will be able to sort that out for you.

Well done!! My mother did a few courses a couple of years ago and she was about your age, was always panicking about it but after you get there and meet a few friends you'll be fine!!

Thanx Naomi, I start my ANA course in August so by the time I qualify al be 46 also. Did you get funding to do your ANA if am not being too cheeky!

Thats great news. I got my job at 40. Did an animal care course for a year then my ANA and I have just qualified at 2 week off 46. It is worth all the effort and time and is such an amazing feeling to have achieved this qualification after wanting to do this my whole life. You can do it and you are never too old. You will be amazed at how quickly your brain will get into study gear. Go For It!!!!

yes i have a secured placement, i got the letter last week, i start at the practice in august.

Hi, do you have a placement? I only ask because a lot of people come on here with pretty much the same thing, and end up not being able to get a placement, thus they end up having to cancel their course.

The course you are describing sounds like you need to find a practice to employ you full time and you attend the college on block release, and from what I have read, you have already tried that.

Practices wont necessarliy take students on just because they have a placement at college, in fact most will advertise for SVN, and they themselves will enrol them on the course, that is the usual way it works.

I would make sure your college is either definitley going to find you a placement before commiting, but in saying that colleges have no further sway with practices than anyone else.

Hopefully you will get your placement, but going by a lot on here they are very very hard to aquire, and certainly no easier to aquire with a college placement.

I have said before in other threads that colleges really should not be giving out false hope by giving students a place on the course, when they know very well that svn places are like gold dust, and that most would be students will not find one in time.

Have you thought about the degree route??

I hope I have not dashed your hopes too much, and I really do hope you find a placement in time.

its block release, so i go to college perodically during the year, the rest of the time i am working in the vets on a placement.

You'll be fine. My mum sat & passed her exams with special commendation when she was your age! She was worried about keeping up with the "youngsters" at first, but found that she was probably even keener to learn than they were! Good luck!
