I work at a small (1 vet 2 nurse) SA practice, and we are looking into becoming a tp. I have completed the clinical coach training and have some experience of training nurse's in the past, the problem I'm currently having is with the TP application

Re: TP Aplication

Hopefully I can help a bit as ive just signed up my practice as a TP!

Students must be able to manually perform a PCV as this is also one of the practical exams. You can probably get a cheap centrifuge from the internet along with all of the basic kit for the test. It will benefit your practice too.

The written guidance for training can be covered within a contract. You need to outline factors such as who pays for the course, if the student fails the exams who pays for resits, how much time off the student gets to attend college (ie day or block release), how the practice supports the student (having access to clinical coach for a minimum of 3 hours per week, internet for NPL etc). Basically write a student nurse contract to include an area relating to training and how the practice will help.

All staff should have job descriptions whether youre in a small practice or hospital. Within the job descriptions there should be some text about how the individuals role will help the development of a student - ie a receptionist would be able to help with training on the phones etc.

As for a staff handbook, alot of practices will have health and safety policies, insurance docs etc that everyone has to read through when they start. Thats what theyre after.

Hope that helps a bit :-)
