I was wondering if anyone had any experience in becoming a vet tech or had any information on it that would be really helpful (:
I've read very few websites

Re: Becoming a Vet Tech

Hello, thanks for your reply :D i e-mailed the TVA and had this reply..

Technicians are currently registered in Texas through TVMA but probably by Jan 2014 they will be handed over to the State Board and become licensed (LVT). I am not sure what the requirements will be to become licensed but they probably will not change much if at all from current requirements. At this time an RVT needs to graduate from an AVMA accredited school with at least an AAS degree in vet technology, pass the National exam (VTNE) and pass the state exam. You can view a list of all avma accredited schools in the US at avma.org. You would have to contact the schools directly to see if any of your UK degrees would transfer as course work in the US. Information re the National exam is located at aavsb.org.

Hope some of that helps you too!
I'm considering going to Canada to live and have been in contact with the Canadian Vet Association. They have told me that i need to sit their exam (VTNE) to qualify. From what they told me it is just the multiple choice section of the exam you need to sit. I know all states are different but the best way to find out is to contact the Texas Veterinary Association. I know you need to have worked a certain amount of hours also (experience) to qualify too!

Hope this helps!

I think i might email the guy on that site and ask the best way to approach it, i know i can get a pretty good visa due to my honours degree but it's going to be so scary doing the exams and nerve wracking! They have so much more responsibility!

Re: Becoming a Vet Tech

from what I've heard it's different depending on the state you are going to.
