I was wondering if any fellow nurses can help me. I am a degree nurse that has been in my first job (in general practice) for 3 years. I love the people I work with but I am bored! I need a new challenge and have even considered a complete career

Re: Stuck in a rut..

I meant AIMVT in cardiology :D

Re: Stuck in a rut..

i'm in cardiorespiratory practice now, and hoping to specialise by doing my cardiology certificate with AVT.

You won't have fallen behind it's amazing what you remember and all the new things that you can learn. Locum work isn't too bad to find. Maybe try signing up to a few locum agencies there is also a lot of locum work on here to find. Vets now was good fun. You could also send your cv to all your local practices to let them know ow your around. I hope you get sorted hun chin up.

I went ito referal work and loved it the challange of nursing is totally different I also did a few shifts with Vets now and found i like the critical carw nursing as your kept on your toes.

You coult try maybe doing the clinical coaching course and see if your would enjoy training new nurses.

Hope you get your self sorted. plow on and you will see it out the other side.

Also write down all the aspects that you currently find boring - that way you will see if what you are after is a reasonable expectation from the career you have trained in or you need to start looking elsewhere.

Once you get it down in black and white it will give you a clearer picture

Re: Stuck in a rut..

I was in the same place, felt I needed to leave my training practice and try something new. it was a little bit of a feeling of 'nothings really changed now i'm green!' I ended up doing maternity cover positions, it meant I could try something new and if I didn't like it I was only there 6 months and it is great experience. Or teaching if that appeals. Maybe even repping. I was the same, bored of general practice, so moved in to specialist referral practice and have never looked back. I absolutely love my job now because I'm in a field I find fascinating and constantly learning new things from the clinicians
