we were getting it from NVS up until about April, but they say its been discontinued.

Thanks for the replies. I knew about the reasons why Voluven has been recalled. We have not be able to get haemaccel for some time. NVS notified us that it has been discontinued, hence the reason for needing an alternative. I rang them this morning and have been told there is a new gelatin based product similar to gelofusin called geloplasma which is due for release this weekend! Good to know about the human albumin too, thanks Steph

all licenses for voluven have been suspended due to increased risk of renal dysfunction and mortality in critically ill or septic patients.

We are getting haemaccel in and also human albumin, I used human albumin quite a bit a few years back and it does have about a 3 yr shelf life on it but it is damn expensive!!

You can still get haemaccel but voluven is no longer in use due to causing kidney failure I believe
