Calculation ect went fine and ran it through without any significant air bubbles but the giving set that they gave us to use I couldn't get the cap of the end and it wasn't dripping out the end

Re: I've now done my practical exam and I'm wondering if these are instant fails...

My examiner explained to me that I had to take the cap off the end to get it to run through, because it wouldn't go and I said that I was trying to run a couple of drops out to prevent an air bubble sitting in the end of the line. I had another problem in that I just could not get the spike of the giving set fully into the bag - it got most of the way and then just wouldn't go further, so there was probably 2mm left out. It was probably just due to me panicking though and not an equipment fault, so not sure if there's any point in disputing...

Re: I've now done my practical exam and I'm wondering if these are instant fails...

My advice is to stop dwelling on it hun. I think the fluid one should be fine, the injection one is going to depend on how much came out of the syringe . Relax and try to forget about the exam now or you'll be in a state by the time the results come out! You've done your best now you just have to wait and see.

Re: I've now done my practical exam and I'm wondering if these are instant fails...

Thanks all for your replies. I hadn't seen one like that before either beany, I wonder if when they take the cap off it it had run through to the end?! What do people think about the injection task, where I squirted a bit into the needle cap? :(.

Re: I've now done my practical exam and I'm wondering if these are instant fails...

I had the same problem with the fluid task! couldn't get any drips out the end, and had never seen a drip set like it before, don't know where they dug that out of! hope they don't fail me either :(

Re: I've now done my practical exam and I'm wondering if these are instant fails...

If you have any are worries that the equipment was faulty you should complete the special consideration form found online

I think in a situation like that if you can talk through what you are doing and explain the reasons for doing so it would be harsh to fail you. For example I am struggling to remove the drip end to allow the fluids to come out, if I had a sterile pair of haemostats I could use them to remove it, I understand it's important to allow the fluids to run through to prevent any air from entering into the circulation.
Good luck and try not to worry
