All other replies are right, you get a sheet with the weight and daily amount, you just have to work out how much it needs per feed i.e. 4kg cat requires 100 mls per feed and needs 5 feeds, so each feed is 20 mls, so long as you remember to flush the tube before and after and don't flush it too hard, its a lot more simple than it used to be!

RE: Feeding task in practical exam

yes I'm sure that is right. It's like looking on the back of the correct food packet you need, looking across the chart on the weight of the patient then divide by the number of feeds. That's what we have been taught for the osce anyway.

RE: Feeding task in practical exam

As far as I'm aware they provide you with the weight of the patient and then a chart with amounts of food for Various weights. You have to just select the right weight and amount from the chart and divide it into the required number of feeds. Hope that helps!

RE: Feeding task in practical exam

[quote user="icklesal"]

Don't panic about it, they give you the amount of food needed. you just have to divide the amount into the number of meals stated on the task info.

IckleSal, thanks for posting this, me and one of our students have been practising this practical today and I felt confused as to how they will present the diet sheet. So on the diet sheet do you think it will provide her with the kcal/ml? So she will know how much to draw up in relation to her BER calculation?

Thanks x
