Is it the norm to sign up with one agency or several?
Do different agencies recruit for different practices?

Re: Locum agency help!

HI Catherine,

We spoke earlier regarding you looking for some locum work during the Summer and when you return to Uni to complete your final year in September. Do call me to discuss available positions we have for you. I have sent you a skills assessment form to complete and send back to us which we can forward with your CV to interested practices. Do call me at any time on 01291 645 871,

Kind Regards,

Your taking the plunge back into the nursing world again, what made you deicde to do that? Congratulations on your up and coming wedding by the way, this must be a very exciting time for you!

It is always best to register with a few agencys, some practices are great and you will hear straight away but yes others do take a while, don't worry about saying yes to someone else if your waiting to hear as you need to work too so you can't wait forever.

Questions i always made sure about were, how long the position was for, any OOH, hours to be worked, my responsibilty (i.e would i be reception theatre etc), parking, accomodation (if accomodation can your future husband stay), what you will get paid for normal and OOH hours (if your doing them), when you will get paid and how you will get paid! Are you using an umbrella company for your wages?

Good luck and i hope it all works out for you, let me know is you need any other advice, i locumed on and off for 8 years and i have to say for the most part i did love it, if it wasn't for the job and wear i am now (which thankfully i love) i would be locuming again, my plan was to start again last year but then i landed this

Re: Locum agency help!

I have recently handed in my notice at work. I spent a year and a half working in industry but I have broken free from the 'golden handcuffs' and I am following my heart and returning to practice as a locum nurse (bye bye lovely brand new air conditioned power steering car, hello old rust bucket Citroën saxo!)

I have already got my first 7 weeks of work sorted so I am over the initial fear that I will be jobless but I would appreciate any tips that people can offer. For example - what questions should you ask an agency when signing up with them and applying for a position? what would be the warning signs that is it not a great agency?

I initially asked an agency to put me forward for a position but it took the practice a week to get back and say that they wanted me. By then I had assumed that they no longer needed me and had already booked something else. Is it normal for them to take this long to get back to you or does It usually happen a lot quicker?

I have already trawled through the old posts but anything else you could think of would be great.

Re: Locum agency help!

Im locuming at the moment and i signed up with a few agencies.
