I have just completed my training, I have gained a FdSc in Veterinary Nursing with Practice Management. I have been working full time in practice for the past year and I am keen to advance my qualification in some way or another.
I did my OSCEs at my college throughout my degree, not at the same time as the then NVQ nurses (I was the last lot to do the NVQ portfolio!)

Re: FdSc/ Advanced Diploma

Hi, thanks for replying. That clarifies things a bit.

Re: FdSc/ Advanced Diploma

Yes Rhiannon's right. I'm doing the BSc at RVC and we have our own set of exams and OSCEs and we don't do the RCVS exams at all. Our OSCEs are in December, other unis will have their own timetables.

The diploma students sit OSCEs as part of the RCVS awarding body/city and guilds/CQ exams (the July OSCEs) whereas some colleges who are an awarding body in their own right run their own exams. That's my understanding of it anyway!

Re: FdSc/ Advanced Diploma

Hi there. Sorry this is a question not directly related to the discussion, but I think you may be able to help. Do FdSc degree students do the same OSCE practicals as the level 3 diploma students? I always thought they had to in order to register with the RCVS on qualification, but I recently met an FdSc student who said she has not passed her practical exams (sat in June) and has been given re-sits but not until the end of the year and she won't be able to register until January, if she passes. I didn't think the practical exams were until the first weekend in July, so how can she have failed already? I did the diploma so I'm not familiar with the degree syllabus or assessments. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Re: FdSc/ Advanced Diploma

The majority of the DipAVN is level 5 but the Advanced review project at the end is level 6. You do have to have been qualified for a year before you can start the course.

You can also opt to 'top up' to the BSc(hons) after you have completed the diploma if you want to. I'm just coming to the end of the DipAVN at Harper Adams and staying on to do the BSc(hons). It is delivered in the same flexible, modular structure so you can study alongside working in practice.

Re: FdSc/ Advanced Diploma

I mean the level of education, a FdSc is at level 5, and the hons is 6...but thank you I think that covers my question! I did the FdSc and chose not to continue onto a BSc, but I am planning on doing the Advanced dip next year :)
