This just seemed a bit of a grey area and I was curious if anyone else did the same :)

Re: Out of date drugs...

just a comment on the konakion - has anybody tried to get it recently? and this may be the reason the konakion is out of date and not been dooped ( ours is in date before anybody asks).

Charmaloo I hope you are not an RVN because as an RVN you share the responsibility/accountability for the 'poor level of care' if you feel that this needs reporting to RCVS, and I must admit this is one of the factors that stops me taking the 'R' ( that and I just dont think it will ever make a difference as it is now because it does nothing to address problems, just pushes them aside or buries them) I am not taking the drop for somebody else over something I have no control over and there is no way you can serve two masters the RCVS being one of them and the boss the other

I agree with Gillian there is far worse out there - or maybe this was the 'tip of the iceberg' at the place you left?

Re: Out of date drugs...
keeping drugs that aren't commonly used but are a good few months out of date such as injectable Glucose and Konakion
Why didn't you offer to buy their replacements? It would have ensured better standards for the animals, the staff & boss couldn't have complained, and it would have eased your conscience. Afterall, you've just walked away from the 'dangerous' situation, because you was 'just following orders sir'!!!

Seriously though- the risks from these types of drugs being out of date is tiny and although this isn't something I would do (especially as these drugs are cheap as chips anyway) I do have sympathy if people don't want to just throw away unopened drugs and buy new ones, which are also likely to just get thrown away. 'Reporting them' (to who???) seems a bit silly.
Can't help but feel I've left a practice where animals are getting a poor level of care
I can't imagine this situation alone would make you feel the animals are getting a poor level of care. If it does, then you've obviously not seen the worst this profession can offer.....
