Don't forget to look in your city and guilds qualification handbooks...at the front it breaks down each paper and tells you how many questions you can expect to get for each area of the syllabus you have been taught for each paper. For example, on paper 2 I think you get around 40 ish questions out of 135 on unit 302 anat and phys, and the rest are unit 304, with lots of equine and exotic comparative stuff in there. I know you still have to revise everything as you don't have a crystal ball to predict the questions, but it may help you all to focus your revision. Good luck all!

10/18 passed first time then i think 3-4 passed it second. Seamed a lot like luck passing though

16/20 of my class passed both papers first attempt. However there is a girl at my wok at a different centre and only 2/20 of her class passed first attempt, most also failed second attempt.

my class have just sat the paper 2 for city & guilds. it seams like they dont really know what to put in it and just throw questions in it for the sake of making it harder. most of what we learnt did not come up at all. we remembered a lot of questions so i checked with my lectures who are 2 fully qualified vet nurses as well as checking with 3 RVN's at work and 3 vets one who just qualified and they all had no idea of most questions and said they were pointless.

If your going to sit it, ide advise to chat to an equine lecture as there was a lot on that and exotics and to just revise like mad.

any one need any help on parts just let me know

Equine is now included in the small animal course Jan.

My practice is 100%SA, so I get all my theory and practical equine work at college.

Some girls at my work have done the ANA course, and it was just small animal that they had to do it for, so fingers crossed it will be the same for you.

I'm a bit confused here I'm not even an SVN yet, but why on earth are they asking questions about horses if you are on the small animal pathway? I'm assuming from your comments that it is that pathway you are all on. I can understand the exotics, I've done all of that on my current vet support assistant course, as lots of small animal vets deal with exotics now, reptiles, tortoises etc, but horses?!

I'm quite worried myself now, perhaps I should check if the ana diploma has an equine module!

I hope you all get your tutors to complain and then maybe they'll sort it out.

I sat City and Guilds paper 1 and paper 2 in April. Passed both, but having been in practice for years and years I felt that I was able to answer them through experiences as opposed to things I had been taught. Don't get me wrong, college teaching was very good, but no matter what I revised, some of those questions IMO should not have been in there.

I've sat paper 1, 2 & 3 under city & guilds (passed 1&2 fine) & I'd say 80% of my class failed paper 3. There was so much on exotics & horses, some of the girls wrote down the questions that we'd never heard of etc & some of our tutors didn't know what they were either. Resit next week, aaaah

II sat paper 1 last week, and I think I speak for my class to say it was ridiculously hard. I agree there was a lot on horses and exotics, and there were some completely random questions. It is really unfair, and I think it needs revising. Ive got vn 4, and vn3 coming up, and now im terrified! Its a huge confidence knock as I failed part of the first paper, and it kind of feels like however hard you revise, im never going to know it all....stressful! :(

This is ridiculous!! I sat paper one and two for the RCVS nearly a year after i started (i did the uni degree not the college course) and that was standard for some of the people on the college route too. I then sat paper three (i was part of the swap from portfolio to NPL group) about 2 years after i started, so during my year on placement. I've heard so many people complain about the new set up, it's ridiculous and i think they need to revise the system if they have any chance of having successful candidates.

Also why are they adding their own questions?! If they have the questions from the RCVS then that should be enough. This isn't fair to new starters and will most likely put people off of training if there are so many failures and complaints!

City and Guilds do a practice paper on their website, except it is a mash up of all three papers and you cannot access the answers, which isn't very helpful. I did my paper 2 last Wednesday, but didn't get my results until the following Monday evening, so don't worry if you don't get the results straight away. Although there are a lot of additional questions centred on exotics and horses, be careful as you are not guaranteed to get these questions. I revised heavily on muscles as it was my weakest subject, but I don't remember getting a single question on muscles! Good luck!

Most of my class said it was awful, I'm doing it September, does anyone know where u can find example questions for city and guilds as I also got told they are different to rcvs ones, and does anyone know of any college etc that is doing anatomy revision before then?

Both our first years hated paper 2 and 3. City and Guilds have added their own questions to the batch they got from the RCVS. They got a lot of questions on horses and exotics. You will also get your results on the day of the exam. Not sure what to think of that.
