Thanks guys! Have started taking them today- got the ones from the pharmacy. God they taste awful!!!

Leave in 7 days, then start new job- lots of exciting things happening over the next couple of weeks!!!!!!!

Having known a few army officers in my time, I'm not sure i'd be so quick to blame the antimalarials...

I've taken Malaorne a couple of times for trips and also had no trouble with them....except the price!

There are other types but dont know how good they are. One type is often used for army officers but my doc told me to avoid them as they can lead to weird, erratic behavior after a while.

Wow, will you be working with Orang's? I'm currently on Malarone after returning from 2 weeks in Kenya (holiday, not working). I haven't tried any others as this was recommended for the area due to resistance to other drugs. I haven't had any adverse reactions to it. They are expensive, I paid nearly £100 for 24. You only need to take it 1-2 days before arriving in a malaria area, and one week after arriving home. My nurse told me Malarone can be brought without prescription from a pharmacy. I brought them, but didn't get bit by one bloodly mosquito lol. Deet and malaria nets are important too, anti-malarials on their own aren't 100%, I got the Maximum protection DEET, one application lasts 8 hours
