As a clinical coach I think the first thing I would be telling you would be to get your health back on top form before worrying about your study. Vet nursing exams and assignments won't go away overnight. You can defer as I have had students do similar in the past when going through a tough time.

As for study, sit down with your college tutor and maybe the head of department and explain what troubles you have had and see if you can piece together a good study plan which works for you.
Next I would ask for some time with your clinical coach to plan how to get through this work alongside your day to day work. You will need to set achievable goals which are 100% realistic and will work for you. Make sure you are also getting 3hours per week off of the nursing rota where you can have 'study time'. That is a legal requirement and should be offered to you.

Another good idea which I have used many times with my previous students is to write a list of the work you have to do in some kind of order. Start with the horrid areas and work down to the bits you enjoy. Then you can plan with your CC where to start and a study plan can be met. Try also some more visual aids as that often helps rather than reading the nursing bible cover to cover.
As for good books, there is a nice practical nursing book with a red cover (sorry I can't remember the full name) you can get on Amazon which is good for a quick reference.
Try also when studying for the practicals to take photographs and piece together a study aid. Print all of the tasks out and have some visuals to go with it like xrays positioning of a teddy with all of the sandbags etc in place.

Hope that helps :)

Re: Exams

hi everyone. my health is getting sorted had scans ext. and on medication so thats fine at the moment still getting side effects from the medication though!! i have the big pink book or 'bible' as everyone refers to. im at college of animal welfare. spoke to my tutor today and just taking it step by step but im rubish at revising !! guess ill just have to keep going over it. and get a schedule going. thanks for all you help!! xx

Re: Exams

I'm sorry your having a bit of a rubbish time at the moment.

If you were my student, I would advise that you prioritise what you need to do, firstly it would be your health. I would advise you go to the doctors and get yourself well. VN training will still be there, it doesn't matter if you qualify a year later, because your health is more important.

I would speak to your college and clinical coach, are they aware of what is happening? Your practice and college, together, should be able to help you and provide support with what you need to do. Take it step by step, not to look at it as a whole.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/1905319266/?tag=hydra0b-21&hvadid=9550949469&ref=asc_df_1905319266

This is the book we advise our students to get.

Hope you get it all sorted and look after yourself. x

Re: Exams

Hey which college are you. I,m in the same kind of boat.I,ve got SAVN16 SAVN18 Paper 2 finishing NPL and got OSCES this summer. I spoke to my tutor and she has given me some mocks to go though.

Re: Exams

sorry to hear your having problems :( The best way to pass exams is to go through your syllabus and cover all the points in each unit, the pink book has all the information you will need also if you have vetlogic or any online resource these help with mcqs, its all a bit much to be taking on at the same time and this will be stressing you out, speak to your tutor at college and break things down so as you can give all your attention to one particular assignment rather than giving little attention to all of them.I will have a look and see if I have anything that will help you but tbh I might have deleted everything!

So the first step is to speak to your tutor and see what they can do to help you. You can pm me if you need help in the meantime and If I can help I will. Also can you get the notes from the lectures you have missed and you could go over these at home. Good luck x
