Thanks very much for all your help. Im going to have my diploma assessed by the RCVS and then see if I have to do any exams. Always good to know that SA vet nurses are fab and that Ill have no trouble finding work.

Congratulations on recently passing :) I have employed a few South African locum nurses before, they have never had any problems registering with the RCVS as I think your qualification is very similar to ours. I guess it depends on how long you intend on being here as to wether that is a worthwhile financial option, having said that you will have no trouble finding work so it should be money well spent. Good Luck and for what it's worth all of the SA locums I have worked with have been fab! Sadly not needing another locum at the moment though, sorry....

Yes, you can work as a lay-person, i.e. a patient care assistant without being registered with the RCVS, but in order to do schedule 3 as Susan states, you won't be able to do this unless you register.

You can work as a lay-person in a Vet practice. You can't practice schedule 3 and you're restricted in a few things, but I would find out from the RCVS exactly what those restrictions are.

As far as I am aware, you do need to register with the RCVS in order to practise as a Veterinary Nurse in the UK. Contact them to check your qualification will be recognised with them beforehand. Best of luck if you do decide to come to the UK.
