For me its a case of finding a job with variety, good case load and pays enough to cover the bills. That is why I enjoyed locuming. It is hard to find a good nursing job with good hours that pays well.

Lack of training practices, low pay and often long hours put people off the job.

At Mike Martins you get the variety and case load, Cardioresp wise. But people that I have spoken to would be worried about missing out on other aspects. I enjoyed my short time there as a locum

Lol ok yeah that is ridiculous although just because nursing has always been low paid doesn't mean it should continue to be so. Unless the CPD and other perks are fantastic I wouldn't consider leaving locuming as I just wouldn't earn enough. That coupled with the fact that I get itchy feet and can't stay in one place for too long lol Good you've found a nurse now, there seem to be fewer and fewer around!

Newly qualified nurses expecting over 20k from a small 2. Vet practice. Vet nusring has always been low paid so I'm not surprised people in an office are getting. Paid more. Luckily we have found a nurse now.

I'd be interested to know what classes as silly money? The wages for nurses are ridiculously low in a lot of places, I have friends in office jobs who get paid substantially a lot more for a lot less stress and less hours. Just curious....

Culloden Vet Clinic has your application, and we will let our ads run for another week or two, then make a decision. The problem up here is that Nurses are not paid enough to relocate easily - moving can be very difficult financially. Hence someone already living fairly close and looking to move jobs is often what we are hoping for.

The age old story.... people can't find qualified nurses, but there are many of us with very good experience, who will make excellent nurses, but are unable to find a training practice to take us on :-(

I think it puts nurses off that we are cardiology only, however other than missing nurse consults you still do all your normal nursing things, kennel anaesthetics, theater, banadages, bloods, catheters etc, just with a bit extra with studies and paperwork. Also Mike pushes us to try and do more, currently learning arterial sampling and cathers (failing, but trying hard)

And i've never worked anywhere that lets you do so much CPD! I have manadged to go to BSAVA, BVNA and a loads of other meetings every year i've worked here.

Finally the top perk, 9 to 5.30 mon - sat. never work a night or weekend or Bank Holiday

*sigh* fingers crossed someone turns up soon

from what i've heard it seems to be the same in a lot of practices.

we are still looking for a nurse here at Martin Referrals, the 2nd lot of advertising goes out this week.

We are advertising too but getting nurses wanting silly money or unmanageable hours. Have had a couple of unqualified experienced nurses but we really want RVNs due to all th schedule 3. We can't take on a trainee at the moment as we have no clinical coach. A degree student was looking for a job but then announced she wanted two three week breaks to do voluntary work which would be very difficult in a small 2 nurse practice.

I would love a job in vet nursing only i,m not a qualified vet nurse, I hope to start training this year or next depending if I pass interviews. I thought there was a shortage of RVNs but looking at the available jobs in Scotland they seem to be few and far between - i,ve just settled in a new home and don't want to move. Getting into a training practice is very difficult, i suppose that deters a lot of people who can't afford the uni/college fees.

this is what happens when a large number of your newly qualifieds decide not to stay in nursing because they can make more money training the next generation or repping - so then all you are left with are the ones that are settled where they are, or nurses coming in from abroad, for many nursing is no longer a vocation but more a means to an end

We are not too far from Kennilworth and have been looking for a nurse for yonks!
