And also had a quick question what are some of the common failures associated with radiographic equipment? Its for my assignment but im not really sure about

Re: Anyone doing the VCA course? / radiography help =)

Hey there I'm a quailed vn to advanced dip level plus foundation degree in health specialising in radiography any questions fire them off at will.

How about comparing and contrasting the three forms of processing.these are manual processing, automatic processing and computered radiography. If you do advantages and disadvantage of each type then this might help with your revision

Exposure should be chosen dependant on tissue thinkness rather than patient weight

Re: Anyone doing the VCA course? / radiography help =)

Thats great thanks for the help =)

Re: Anyone doing the VCA course? / radiography help =)

I'm not doing the VCA course but I am revising the VN radiology module at the mo so this might be helpful?

You could include anything to do with manual processing - exhausted chemicals, user error (timing, not rinsing/washing etc), bad handling of films, wrong filter on safelight etc

Automatic processors - wrong temp, dirty rollers, chemicals not filled up

Digital processors can sometimes have software issues, user error etc

Cassettes - damaged, not shut properly, damage to padding inside prevents good film/screen contact, dirty screens, scratched screens, artefacts such as contrast media splashed on outside of cassette

Cracked PPE can leave personnel open to radiation exposure (not that you should be in the room with SA but could be appropriate for equine /LA rad)

XRay machine not working - obv you wouldn't get any radiographs, so big fail!!

From what I've read most "failure" is down to incorrect exposures for the object being radiographed or processing errors - maybe that's what they're getting at? There's loads of info on Vet Logic so have a look on there.

Good luck,
