I have just sold my practice I set up from scratch 5yrs ago.
I am huge advocate that it should be done but there were pitfalls and problems I didn't foresee as a RVN owner, employing a vet.

More than happy to chat about this as could write an essay on here! Send me message with your number if you would like to discuss.

I will say I am proud of what I did and don't regret it, it was just circumstances that resulted in sale

Good luck

Re: opening a new practice/business...

Well good luck on your hunt. I'm sure you'll find someone. I have heard it can take about two years to get to practice stage though so be patient and save up. lol

Re: opening a new practice/business...

Thank you all!!
I actually now someone who is doing it and have spoken to v4p.
I'm really up for it. Just need to find a vet in the same position really. :)

Re: opening a new practice/business...

May I suggest that you go on to the Vets4pets website. They have several Joint venture partners (JVP's) that are VNs. You just have to find them. My experience from working in that type of practice is very positive. Loved it in fact! I'm sure if you contacted them directly that they would be very helpful.

Re: opening a new practice/business...

You quite often see practices for sale in vet times... or would you be looking for a brand new build...

There are quite clearly about 1 million different questions that need to be answered...

I suppose if you owned the building would you effectively give yourself the role of practice manager?

Good luck

Re: opening a new practice/business...

Hi,

I have only heard of a couple of nurses that have set up there own practice, 1 is mainly a shop that does nail clips, microchips and grooming. The other is a physio so just does physio.

So would all depend on a few things i.e. if you want a full vet surgery, nurse only practice, if you have an interest and want to specialise in that area.

Also maybe more beneficial for you to take to business owners or do a course in management/business so you have an idea of what its going to be like and all the legal aspects that you need to take into consideration.

Personally I'm a bit too lazy to run my own practice and can't deal with the headaches but best of luck to you.
