In order to feel stressed there must have been a time when you didnt feel stressed otherwise how would you know you were stressed? (think about it)

Stress happens when things change otherwise if things were all ticking along as usual you would do what you would do usually and life would be just tickety boo (unless life is boring and that could be stressful in itself).

Most people can manage a few changes but when a big one comes along sometimes it takes a bit of working out how to adapt and if that big change comes hot on the heels of previous changes or is followed by more changes people soon start to feel snowed under and stressed.

What I do for myself is list all the changes that have happened since the last time I felt I was managing well and from that make up a list with the biggest at the top and the smaller ones underneath in descending order and see what I can do with them - I usually tackle the smaller ones near the bottom first and build up to the top of the list and sometimes the big one at the top I will further break it down by the time I get around to it.

ie this was mine for Friday.

1 visit to the dentist

2 short staffed at work

3 bus about an hour earlier than I needed it

4 toothache. (note how low on the list the physical pain comes)

In other words I had allowed myself to get wound up because I hadnt effectively managed one aspect and had allowed all the others to pile in on top or tag along until I couldnt manage any of them, I was overwhelmed

By looking at the list I broke it down into smaller chunks that then became more manageable for me, not sure how it was for everybody else. ( its the how do you eat an elephant? question - a bit at a time)

Exercise is good it takes you out of a situation for a while, gets you expending a bit of physical energy rather than mental energy and gets the old endorphins moving

There is quite a bit on stress already on here - give it a read different people have different ways of dealing.

happy to answer PMs on this

Re: Dealing with stress in at work

Exercise? I find it helps me, zumba or a good walk with the dog usually clears my head, it will also burn off the calories of the wine that you ahve had heehee!

Re: Dealing with stress in at work

Looking forward to reading Sal's advice!
