So I had my interview. I felt I did rubbish! I was nervous and didn't know what to say :( I got a email from CAW yesterday............I got a place ^_____^ It's conditional though and I need to get two more weeks at a veterinary practice, which I'll be doing soon, and two weeks in a equine environment, which I need to get sorted. Only about two months to go so there is a lot to do and not much time. I hope everyone else got the outcome they wanted. See all you full time VN CAW students in September!!

Sounds like you enjoyed and got a lot out of the VCA course Mrs H. I have looked into the course and it does seem a good course to start with before the Diploma. I was going to do the VCA course first but I couldn't find a placement or the funding for it. If I don't get accepted on the Diploma I'll try again at finding a placement for the VCA course and do that this year. I'm moving soon so new vets to beg. Lol.

I've really really enjoyed doing the VCA!! I would reccommend it to anyone who wants to go onto the Nursing diploma, it's been a wonderful introduction to all the basics in Vet Nursing and all the anatomy and physiology side of studying, i'll be so confident starting my Nursing diploma in september with all that i've learnt on the VCA in just 1 year, I finish in just a few weeks and time has flown by since starting in september. Its like a big head start! Not to mention all the great experience being on my placement. And having the experience has not only secured me my dream job placement when I start my nursing in september, but I had placement offers from a couple of other places, PURELY because i've had a years experience and they wanted someone to start their nursing diploma with some knowledge and experience within a vets, not someone they would need to spoon feed and teach from scratch, go for the VCA!

I won't be able to get originals as the awarding bodies don't reissue lost certificates. I will have my science and maths certificates in summer (exams in June) as I decided to retake them this year to get better grades but that's only two GCSEs I will have originals for :( Really feeling I won't get in this year, I don't have much experience and have no past qualifications in animal care. Fingers crossed though. I am very enthusiastic and I know veterinary nurse is my forever career so hope that shines through and is strong enough to get me on the course. I have plenty of essay I have done using my boyfriend uni assignments (animal management) so may take them along too. I need all the help I can get! I am thinking the same if I don't get in this year. I think the VCA must give you a bit of a better chance of getting onto the VN Diploma. Haven't a clue how I will fund it or find a placement but I will try. This is what I want to do so I am going the become a RVN :)

Phone them and find out, Ive found the staff to be very helpful and friendly both on the phone and face to face especially Joy who anwsered all my queries promptly. Keep up the good work.

Yes they ask to see originals and photocopies of all your certificates and remember passport and documents for RCVS enrolment form. You'll be fine. I found them very friendly, actually enjoyed the day, glad I went over Intermediate 2/ credit maths textbook though before going. I was at Edinburgh - nice wee campus, homely unlike the big unis - this appeals to me - getting to know the lecturers well, and hopefully be a close knit supportive group if get accepted. I,m waiting to hear from another college that i really want to go to as well. Fingers crossed for us all.

If I don't get in i,m thinking of the VCA course - Do others think this would help?

Only 10 places!! Eekk!! Doubting I will get one :( I will have to try my best to impress them. Did they ask to see your GCSE certificates? I can't find mine anywhere and I don't have the money to order a letter with my results on. Hopefully it won't effect my chances. I will take my foundation degree and other qualification certificates I have gained over the years just to show them that I am able to learn. Getting so nervous now!

You'll be fine, literacy and numeracy not a bad as I thought, everyone really nice. Good luck loads of competition and only 10 places. Had a nice day meeting other candidates, fingers crossed. Seemed very organised compared to last interview

Is it too late to apply for a place this year? I'm on the fence about moving over to UK due to finances, so haven't fully decided if should make the jump this year or next year.... Also, where would people recommend out of the CAW locations - I'm flexible, but also would be good to keep cost of living low. And anyone who's done the course - do you know if you get time off/summer/winter breaks, where you could potentially work and earn some funds to cover cost of living?

Thanks Sarah :) I've applied for the full time course so I don't need a placement to start, college arrange them. Both the vets I volunteered at said I can do some placement with them, they wasn't able to have me full time as they already had trainees.

Hey :) you will do great!! I went to Leeds CAW they are very nice and helpful!! The kind of questions they ask is like on your application why you want to be a nurse etc you will do fine. Have you got a placement yet?

Thanks a lot Mrs H. I like to know what goes on at interviews so I don't freak out as much. Lol. Hopefully we will see each other. Let me know if you do get in :) I think I would rather go smartly dressed that casual. I could not turn up in jeans, it wouldn't feel right. Good luck to everyone else having interviews :)

At my uni interview went in smart like for a job interview, most of the thers who were at school came in with jeans and trainers!

Hi there!

I had my interview at CAW Leeds a couple of weeks ago to start nursing in September. They are really lovely so no need to be nervous. I had to do a Maths and English test (its not an entry test or anything its just so they can see what level your at). I also had to write short essay from a list of topics they give you, I chose to write about "my most inspirational person". You will listen to a talk about the course in one of the classrooms with tea and coffee, and then the interview with two very nice ladies. They asked me questions about the vets i'm doing voluntary work at now, why I want to go into nursing, that kind of thing. I'm doing the veterinary care assistant diploma at the moment so they asked me a lot about that.. hope that helps!

I went quite smart, but the other girls there seemed quite casual. I came out really excited, maybe I will see you in September!! :)
