Also loved and still do palaeontology and archaeology. Used to have cave paintings just above the house and at the dams was ancient pottery sherds and l once found a small arrowhead.

Knew l would never have the patient though for them as a subject l love watching time team even multiple repeats and all types of progs like that. Am npt keen on egypt though not sure why

My mum always said I wanted to be a Princess!! I always knew I wanted to work with animals and wanting to be a vet growing up with animal hospital and vets in practice etc.

Found some old school work the other day and I had put I wanted to be a receptionist! What was I thinking! I could not have a normal 9-5 job that was the same each day lol

When I did work experience at a vets I found that after speaking to the vets I probably couldn't get the grades espec for maths (very bad at it) and I loved being with the nurses a lot more and loved the nursing side of it! So changed my mind. Only beginning to change my mind now seeing as though the blooming practicals seem impossible to pass :(

vet nurse.....one of the girls i used to go to school with recently found me on fb and messaged me..."you always said you wanted to be a vet nurse and now you are one" i replied yeah been doing it 10 yrs...not seen you for 12...made her feel v old!

Like alot of others I wanted to be a vet from a young age but then realised vet nursing was a much better idea, and I also would never have got into vet school!!

When i first watched Jurassic park i decided i wanted to be a paleontologist, and then when animal hospital come on 4/5 years later i dcided i wanted to be a vet, as i got older i realised i was too stupid... also went into practice for experience and realised i preferred the nurses job!!

i always wanted to become a soldier in the rmy, espeially infantery....
I didn'tmake it though... (luckely I think now )
They said I wasn't mentaly strong enough! If only they know.... but it might have had something to do with the fact that I was A DAY too late for my interview/tests....

so failing that I didn't know what to do.... First i wanted to work with children but then realised I would have the buggers around me 5 days a week!
So then thought about working with horses but as that was such a specific area and not a broad market I decided animal care and accidentaly rolled into nursing

I wanted to be a Police constable At that time, it wasnt the safest of jobs in Northern Ireland so I was quickly put off. I then decided on becoming a nun seriously, I did!!

Then when I was old enough to know something about the world, it was definitely a career working with animals and vet nursing sort of found me!

Hi Mrs Dot Dot,

Initially I wanted to be a Hairdresser from a very young age......... and practiced religiously with my dolls hair and my own just before school photo day...lol afterall I wanted to look my very best. I still have the photo with very little fringe

I think though that nursing was definitely there, as I was always recuing the wildlife. One in particular still sticks in my mind. I think I must have been about 7, and I found a little sparrow, who only had one and a half legs, so I got a matchstick, and tied it to the half leg.The bird flew off and I never knew what the outcome was.

I wanted to build a rescue kennels on my dads front garden and rescue lots of doggies!! Suppose I would still like to do that but not sure my dad would agree on putting it on his garden!!!

A vet.... and the older I got the more I realised I was too dumb so then it was a vet nurse!

(I used to bring dead mice, voles and rabbits in to the house when I was really little to see if I could make them better. Don't think my Mum was best pleased)

I actually wanted to be a game warden would still love to do that but realise l wont ever. My situation won't allow it and by the time it did l would be to old and Africa will probably have buggar all game left the way it is being destroyed.

A vet. From about 10 years old. Blame James Herriott (the TV, not the books tho). And David Taylor, Zoo Vet from Rochdale (my town of birth) - anyone else remember the programme 'One By One'????

Got told for the next 7 years that I wasn't clever enough. My attitude? Watch me! Spent a hell of a lot of time in my room working. Even when I was filling in my UCAS form in college my form teacher told me I had little chance of getting in! Wish I could meet her now..............

At various times I've wanted to be a hairdresser, a nursery nurse but also just to be outside..... Just fell into nursing when I was 21 and haven't looked back since......... As long as I wasn't stuck at a desk/ in an office doing 9-5 then I didn't have any great plans. Have said before, now, I can't imagine doing anything else other than VNing or being able to do anything else.

Flight Attendant.. I nearly drove my parents insane wanting to go to the airport and watch planes every day!! I actually did qualify recently to do the Chrischurch/Melbourne trip, however that particular airline disappeared into thin air!! BUT I've also been animal-mad and wanted to be a vet nurse from a very young age, at one stage I wanted to be a Flying VN. I don't think there are such things lol Anyway I've been vet nursing now for 43 years and have loved every minute of it!!!

A teacher (until i realised they have to take their planning/marking home!), a paper girl , and then like someone else said i watched good old Rolph Harris on Animal Hospital and Trude Mostue (sp?) on Vets in Practice (i'll never forget her not being able to inject the kitten!) and decided i wanted to be a vet...then realised that actually i wanted to be a VN, wanted to nurse those little helpless souls back to health!

I always wanted to be a vet, right up until I did my work experience then changed my mind to vet nursing. Cant imagine myself doing anything else now, think I would have hated being a vet!

My first ambition was just to be a fairy

Strangely, it didn't pan out so decided that I wanted to be a VN after first watching Animal Hospital when I was about 9. Have always had an inkling that I'd like to be a writer in addition though.

an engineer, or an inventor, both at the same time if possible.

I did engineering science , metalwork, automotive and tech drawing, chemistry , biology and physics at school and got good results in them all except chemistry and I only managed a C. And then my father decided heavy industry was no place for his daughter he didnt want me to do vet nursing either but that is another story.

So I can weld, take things apart and rebuild them, solder, braze, manufacture my own parts. 'invent' or adapt my own stuff, quite handy with a gun and a bow - and I end up as a glorified floor cleaner for 25 years - something not quite right there
