Sarah you had every right to get upset. But I think we can both agree you found this place for a reason and I think we are all happy you are here! We all have to start somewhere. Even if it was on lock down I imagine you would have found your way on with a friendly referral from someone you met down the line!! ;) I didn't find out about this place until my friend who is a locum vet worked with a nurse, at the vets I'm about to work at soon actually, recommended that i come on here and look for jobs! Life finds a way. If you want it to happen and make it happen it will!!! I've got my fingers crossed for you and i love your new friend! xx

I think we should all know where we stand as regards to membership on the forum.

You could ask your boss or head nurse at the practice you volunteer I'm sure they would offer you a reference to the site if that was the case.

It wasn't Julie, but i'm assuming you just mixed them up and it's not that important. BUT the woman that did sign up here for her daughter didn't just sign up here and help her daughter. She also read a lot of personal threads from VNs and staff members needing advice and having trouble and then asked a question about her pets as if it were an advice for for pet owners. Which it is not, this is the only thing we asked her not to do and made it clear that this was not the place to do so. This promted others that were uncomfortable with the situation to ask if she was even employed in the veterinary industry. There's nothing wrong with that as this forum is listed as being for VNs and veterinary professionals, not a petforum.

Dont worry Sarah no-one is trying to push you out, or anyone in the same situation as yourself.

The problem arises when members of the public join to ask information, stir trouble or obtain information.

I think what people are trying to say is that general members of the public shouldnt be allowed access, but people should be allowed access for information re joining the profession (such as yourself) but in my opinion you are not just a member of the public as you are working voluntarily in a practice xx

Sarah,

As STRVN said, I dont think you need to worry yourself about not being able to come on here in the future. You have made a reputation here (like me and everyone else) and we all know you are volunteering at practices and holding out for that svn job etc. So I would safely say you wont be going anywhere in a hurry!

Now, I DO NOT want to see another negative post from you on this thread You concentrate on choosing a name for that pretty girl that is soon to be yours!

ahh my mistake, this is just a hard one for me because being one of the people who really wants to be a VN but hasnt quite got there yet and because of a small claus i might not be allowed on here

i understand a need to make this a private site for only those in the profession but the fact is where would that leave people such as me who have offered themselves up for free in practices for four years!! just to be told that because i dont have a badge i shouldnt be on here, i just think the people who are suggesting policies should be more thoughtful of those who do want to be on here for the right reason s but are being tarred with the public brush, because lets face it at the moment i only volunteer in a practice i actually work nights at ASDA doesnt that make me a member of the public???

Looking at her profile, Julie is a QVN? Think you mean HazG. No-one has anything to hide but why shouldn't we want to have a more 'private' forum? Plenty of other professions do as its a way to discuss work related things with other like minded folk, have a whinge when the need arises without anyone being too shocked about what happens at work and anything else relevant.

Yes there have in fact been people who have signed up to a. just ask for pet related advice, or b. sh*t stir about the veterinary profession, or just to trawl the boards to find information and then pass it on to another forum. In fact one such thread on the old site was from someone who wasn't in the profession but wanted to be, and told us not to post off putting things about the job as it was making her disillusioned! Plenty of people do have the time to sign up and do this...

Sorry if this offends anybody, but everyones entitled to their opinions and all that.

I might be off the mark here but I took the non-veterinary option to be those for e.g who are looking for student vacancies. They're not SVNs so can't technically put themselves as Students/Nursing Assistants.

I do agree though that if there was a feasible way, and not to impose huge amounts of work for admin, I would prefer the forum to be for veterinary staff only. The MRSA forum was a true example of the trouble that can happen when people start throwing buns about something they don't agree with relating to veterinary practice.

I think this is a great idea, the VN-times account number could be used as well for veterinary professionals. Students could get their assessor or head nurse's vn number to enroll or get a 'referral' account made. Using referral's of other members could also be a venue of entry. So if I were to recommend the site to a fellow staff member they could come on register and say they know me and I recommended them for access.

if somebody is determined they will get in - its no good saying they wont because they will!

Whilst the above suggestions are good , they are not practical. How much time and whose time would be spent chasing things up? and to what end?
