What allowance to people get ? do they get paid for the day if they should have been working as well as the course paid for? does the boss get to choose your cpd for you? if it in the eve/ weekend do

Re: cpd

At my practice we have an annual budget which is a percentage of turnover reviewed annually so the more we make the more we can potentially spend on CPD. This is split between ALL staff, RVNs, vets and receptionists although admittedly receptionists don't tend to go on as many courses.

We get paid CPD course costs and mileage (with accommodation if it requires and budget is available) and we still get paid for the days where it is during work time. My opinion is if there's an evening one you have accepted that it's evening and so we don't generally get TOIL for this, especially seeing as we still get paid for the days when we do CPD during working hours.

We can also put our CPD budget towards books aswell so if there is a useful book the practice wants we can use any excess budget for this towards end of the financial year, we try to spend it on structured CPD though as this is generally what costs to the most.

Hope this helps
