I did exactly the same it helped greatly as give me basic background knowledge. I gained great experience at the college I was at with a range of aniamls reptiles, rodents, insects, farm animals and small. It is also helps give you an idea and options on what you can do. Dont give up on a dream! Its a lot of work but you will get there and will be very much worth it in the end!

Hi lisa can you help im in the middle of doing an ana course but I dont think I'm getting the level of support I need and the contact time between myself and teacher is non existed. Could I cancel my course and complete it with another course provider?

Hi im doing my ANA level 2 certificate whic is just like the VCA. and I have my level 2 keyskills in maths and english

I work in in a referral practice but they are not a training practice so I habe started to apply to training practices but only have 4 in my area.

Is your practice funding you or the government?

Hi there, I'm 29, I wanted to start my level 3 Nursing September 2012...

I have a Theatre degree from University, good A-levels and As-Levels, A grades in English and C in Maths GCSEs, experience in a Vets.... But a D grade GCSE Science. And for that one D-grade i was refused onto the course unless I re-did my Science gcse or did the VCA year long course (Veterinary care assistant). So I am king the VCA and loving it!!! and even better, it is going to help my HUGELY with regards to the level 3 Nursing diploma this September 2013, and looks fantastic on my CV and has helped me secure a placement already for September :)

Do the VCA!!! Its only a year and its fab!

I also did the ANA through distance learning, so it is possible. I would at least inquire. I'm surprised they haven't given you more information about this already!

Im doing a correspondence course for my level 2 ANA my tutor dont have the resources. She sends my work in the post. Its ok I'll see what learn direct can do for me.

Myself and colleagues didn't have to attend any lessons, just a small amount of coursework and an exam sat on a computer. Not very time consuming! Have you talked to the college you are completing your ANA certificate with, I'm guessing they might be able to provide the resources?

if you contact your local college or Adult Education dept they should be able to advise you. Short of that all I can suggest is searching the internet. However I think you may find that you will need to attend somewhere. I used to help out in adult numeracy and literacy group at night class, most people there were also working full time - including myself, it is possible. It might be an inconvenience for a short time but worth it in the long run if it gets you to where you need to be? Most places offer day or night classes. You may even find that these could be available from your course provider ?

I suspect it's because they're basic skills, and need refreshing every once in a while. I know a number of people who've had to do these (sometimes twice), because their GCSEs or last set of key skills were taken over 5 years ago. I don't really know why exactly, however as people have said, the rules may vary across course providers.

But you don't have to resit your GCSEs ao don't know why you should do thw keyskills again. Dose anyone online where I can take the level 2 keyskills? I work full time so dont have time to go to college and do them.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think they have to be refreshed every 5 years. They're fairly straight forward, however.

Ive contacted my awarding body for my keyskills level 2 certificates cost £37 for replacements :(. Im still trying to find out if I would need to do my keyskills again? I took mine 10 years ago. Does any one know if they expire? Surely if you're taken them once you don't need to do them again. Just like GCSEs once you've taken them you don't have to do them again. im also half way through my ANA course should complete that this Sept.

Just to throw a spanner in there; I did my ANA and have my 5 GCSEs, college still insisted I got a copy of my maths GCSES certificate. So some colleges may want you to have your GCSEs aswell.

You may need to enquire with your local Course Provider for the VN Diploma as they will be able to advise you:

A lot of ANA course providers will make you take them again anyway.

Thank yoi gor your reply. I did my level 2 key skills im 2001 when I did my GNVQ Advance Information Technology I gain a distinction which is evaluate to 2 A levels. I did my level 2 key skills along side that.

Because it was 12 years ago would I nees to resit my keyskills level 2. Or do I just need to complete my ANA course then I can apply to study as a student veterinary nurse?

Hi Melinda

Yes, the ANA plus Functional/Key Skills Level 2 in Application of Number and Communication is equivalent to the GCSE entry requirements.

Also i forgot to ask i did my Key Skills Level 2 in Application of Number and Communication in 2001. Would i need to take these again. some people said yes and some said no so i'm not sure.

Unfortunately, ALL students must reach the minimum entry qualficiations to enable you to undertake the Diploma. Age and experience is not taken into consideration I'm afraid.

There are ANA and VCA courses which can be taken online now, so no need to attend College on a regular basis.
