&lt;p&gt;Definitely you should get a day off in lieu. Just cos you get paid for the BH Monday, doesn&amp;#39;t make a difference - you should be paid for holiday &amp;amp; if it&amp;#39;s not taken as holiday, then you need another day off at another time - if that makes sense! (Made perfect sense to me, cos I know what I&amp;#39;m trying to say!)&lt;/p&gt;

Technically, your boss can tell you when to take your holidays.&amp;nbsp; You are allowed to ask for specific times - but he is allowed to say no as long as he/she gives you notice.&amp;nbsp; Obviously most bosses wouldn&amp;#39;t do this (wouldn&amp;#39;t keep staf for long) we just make requests, as STRVN said, as to when would be most convenient.&amp;nbsp; But the law does stand.&amp;nbsp; For clarification, see:&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;I dont think that is technically true, yes your boss can say that they would like x amount of holidays taken by certain times of the year, and places like factories that close at certain times, obviously you then have to take holidays then, but if you want a holiday and give notice of said holiday then you can take it when you wish. &lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;A lot of places will obviously have to have&amp;nbsp; x amount of staff working at a given time, so in some cases possibly only 1 or 2 people off at any time.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Notice periods for holidays, are usually double the time for the time you want off.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;1 day, you give 2 days notice, 2 days 4 days notice&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;You are entitled to a minimum of 5.6 weeks&amp;#39; holiday a year. This is called statutory holiday.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;To work out how many days holiday you can take a year, you need to multiply 5.6 by the number of days you work in a week.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;For example:&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;if you work a five-day week, you are entitled to 28 days&amp;#39; paid holiday a year (5.6 X 5).&lt;/p&gt;

is 28 days. This applies even if you work more than five days a week.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Your contract of employment may give you the right to take more than
the statutory amount of paid holiday. However, it cannot give you less.
For example, if your contract of employment says you can only take 10
days&amp;#39; paid holiday a year and you work five days a week, you will still
be entitled to take 28 days&amp;#39; paid holiday.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;If your normal working week is expressed in hours, your statutory leave may be expressed in hours too.&amp;quot;&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;You do not have an automatic right to take bank or public holidays
